Southern Chiefs\xe2\x80\x99 Organization Senior Communications Officer BACKGROUND: SCO is a growing and dynamic regional First Nation organization that represents 34 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations and more than 85,500 citizens in southern Manitoba. SCO was established 24 years ago by the Chiefs as an independent organization to protect, preserve, promote, and enhance First Nation peoples\xe2\x80\x99 inherent rights, languages, customs, and traditions through the application and implementation of the spirit and intent of the Treaty-making process. OVERVIEW: Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Senior Communications Officer will be responsible for supporting a variety of communication needs and initiatives of the Southern Chiefs\xe2\x80\x99 Organization (SCO) and the Southern First Nations Network of Care. The successful candidate will be responsible for writing, editing, proofreading, and creating content for use in internal or external communications. The Senior Communications Officer will work collaboratively to coordinate communications materials for the public, media, and organization\xe2\x80\x99s members. The applicant should have a strong interest in writing, storytelling, and an excellent ability to articulate information. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: \xc2\xb7 Assists with developing and executing a variety of communication tasks for SCO and the Southern First Nations Network of Care. \xc2\xb7 Writes, edits, and proofreads content. \xc2\xb7 Creates and distributes media materials, including speaking notes. \xc2\xb7 Coordinates and administers media relations and publicity. \xc2\xb7 Oversees general communication to citizens. \xc2\xb7 May be required to develop visual content, such as photographs, videos, illustrations, and graphics. EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS: \xc2\xb7 Post-secondary degree or diploma. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. \xc2\xb7 At least five years of related work experience. \xc2\xb7 Self-starter with demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills. \xc2\xb7 Able to be discreet when dealing with confidential or sensitive information. \xc2\xb7 Able to handle the pressure of working in a fast-paced organization in time-sensitive situations. \xc2\xb7 Excellent writing skills, including significant and recent experience writing speaking notes for advocates and/or elected officials. \xc2\xb7 Experience working with media is essential. \xc2\xb7 Excellent computer knowledge and typing skills. \xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential. \xc2\xb7 Flexible in terms of work schedule and ability to travel as necessary. \xc2\xb7 Ability to work within a team. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: \xc2\xb7 Must provide satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. \xc2\xb7 A valid class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a reliable vehicle for business travel.
