The opportunity: The University of Manitoba is looking for a Senior Communications Associate. This position will be responsible for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all marketing communications efforts associated with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. Areas of strategic importance to the NCTR include archive, education, research, reconciliation, and community engagement. The qualifications and experience we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for: PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing or other related specialization required.
  • Four years of directly related communications and client management experience in an integrated marketing communications setting required.
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples, Elders, and communities, is essential.
  • Experience working with Residential School Survivors is preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills and a high level of creativity and problem-solving skills required.
  • Must have a proven track record of successful strategic communications planning and implementation.
  • Must have exceptional leadership and relationship building skills including respectful relationship building with members of the Indigenous community.
  • Must have strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Strong project management skills are required.
  • A proven track record in working with all levels of staff, including senior administration, external stakeholders and others is an asset.
  • High degree of independence, diplomacy and the ability to work collectively in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Solid understanding of print and digital communications platforms and ability to leverage in an integrated way to meet identified goals and objectives is required.
  • Ability to effectively lead, collaborate and negotiate is required.
  • Ability to liaise successfully with external partners, senior leadersand Indigenous peoples is required.
  • Proven ability to engage and foster relationships with Indigenous peoples required.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team members is required.
  • Ability to manage a broad range of marketing communications projects from concept to completion is required.
  • The ability to speak French and/or an Indigenous language is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of the procedures and techniques in the field of specialization preferred.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
