As a
strong storyteller and strategic communicator
, you'll be at the forefront of amplifying SickKids research breakthroughs. Reporting to the Manager, Communications (Research Institute & Strategic Initiatives), you'll craft news releases and feature stories that spotlight the publications, projects and people driving scientific excellence and innovation at the SickKids Research Institute.
Your work will shape how our discoveries are shared with the world, making complex science accessible and engaging. You'll collaborate with researchers, staff, patients and families, developing communications strategies and products that elevate the visibility and influence of SickKids research. Here's what you'll get to do
Collaborate with researchers and research staff to identify and develop compelling stories about new research publications, funding and grants, initiatives and people spotlights
Translate complex information into accessible, engaging communications for varied audiences
Write and edit for a range of channels and formats, including news releases, feature stories, website and intranet content, social media copy
Assist Research Institute groups with communications plans, recommending strategies and tactics to maximize the reach and impact of research communications
Support the development and production of the Research Institute newsletter
Interview and obtain consent from patients and families for relevant stories and events
Contribute to planning and execution of Research Institute events, announcements and shoots
Participate in the Communications & Public Affairs on-call rotation

Here's what you'll need
Essential requirements:
Degree/diploma in Communications, Journalism or a related area
5+ years of progressive communications experience
Strong writing and verbal communications skills, with the ability to plain language complex information for different audiences and channels
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects independently
Attention to detail, initiative and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
Assets:
Experience in a science communications role and/or media relations experience
Experience working in a healthcare, research or university setting
Working knowledge of Mailchimp and familiarity with Google Analytics
