SUMMARY



You'll bring cloud accounting expertise and thoughtful leadership to our growing, fully remote bookkeeping team (8+ bookkeepers). You'll manage the books in Xero/QBO/Dext/Hubdoc for Canadian clients across not-for-profit, trades/service, agencies, e-commerce, tech, and financial services. Start as a contractor with the option to become an employee over time. 100% virtual (no office). Owner based in Burlington, ON. We offer flexibility, autonomy, and growth. You'll have more ownership and impact here than at a larger firm. We don't do tax filings, so there's no brutal tax season--reasonable hours while earning well. Run by a marketing entrepreneur (not a CPA)--modern, flexible, and innovative.

ROLE



This role focuses on delivering accurate, timely bookkeeping services and a great client experience.

Flexible workload: Start from ~10 hours/week and scale up to 35-40 hours as we grow, based on your availability. Core work: Monthly reconciliations, sales tax (HST/GST/PST) management, A/P & A/R, invoicing, bill payments. Payroll: Manage payroll for clients with 2-30 employees. Generally bi-weekly with Monday/Tuesday deadlines. GL ownership: Maintain, monitor, and reconcile GL accounts (cash, bank recs, prepaid expenses, A/R, A/P, accruals, inter-company, POS/system uploads). Proactively identify issues, investigate discrepancies, and resolve them. CRA communications: Respond to info requests, assessments, and installment matters. Tech stack: Xero, QuickBooks Online, Dext, Hubdoc, Plooto, Wagepoint, Financial Cents, Google Workspace, Zoom, Loom. (We only use Xero and QBO for accounting.) Tools & learning: New tools come fast--we adopt the best. You should enjoy learning web-based software quickly. Onboarding support: Our team lead and senior bookkeepers will help onboard you to our systems and clients. Project/reporting work (as needed): Strong Excel/reporting skills are an asset.

YOUR FIRST YEAR



First 3 months: You'll handle bookkeeping for clients managed by a senior bookkeeper to learn our workflows and confirm fit/quality. You'll work closely with senior bookkeepers and our Team Leader to learn clients, systems, and processes. After ramp-up: You'll manage your own client portfolio and report to our Team Leader.

JOB FIT CRITERIA



Experience: 5+ years cloud bookkeeping for Canadian businesses. Firm experience: 2+ years handling monthly deadlines in a bookkeeping or accounting firm (managing multiple clients). Availability: 20+ hours/week, primarily during business hours (9-5 ET or 8-4 MT/PT). Some tasks can be done evenings/weekends, but most client work is daytime. Not compatible with another full-time 9-5 role. Systems expertise: Expert user of Xero, QBO, Dext (QBO Desktop alone is not sufficient). Location & work status: Legally able to work in Canada and physically based in Canada. Communication: Native/near-native English; reliable same-day responsiveness (emails within 2-3 hours on weekdays); able to update client books at least every two days. Certifications: QuickBooks ProAdvisor (required); Xero Advisor (preferred). Set-up: Your own computer (<4yrs old), fast internet, and a professional, quiet space for daytime video calls. Engagement: Contractor to start, with option to become employee (negotiable).
