Job Description

NWI Precision specializes in high-precision machining of helicopter masts, turbine shafts, engine thrust links, and nuclear pressure vessel components for the aerospace and nuclear industries worldwide. Operating from a 120,000 sq. ft. facility at 9 Fenmar Drive in Toronto, our dedicated team is committed to delivering the highest quality products to specifications and on time.

The Senior Buyer manages the full procurement cycle for assigned commodities and suppliers, ensuring reliable delivery, consistent quality, and cost-effective sourcing to support NWI's production requirements. This role provides proactive supplier oversight, drives issue resolution with internal stakeholders, and contributes to strategic sourcing initiatives that strengthen supply continuity and mitigate risk. The Senior Buyer combines strong analytical and negotiation skills with deep knowledge of aerospace raw materials, special processes, and procurement practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Manage the procurement cycle from purchase order creation through to delivery, ensuring cost, quality, and on-time performance targets are achieved. Lead supplier performance reviews, drive corrective actions, and escalate risks when required to maintain production continuity Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to resolve supplier-related issues affecting material availability, conformance, or schedule. Identify and develop alternate sources for high-risk or underperforming suppliers to safeguard continuity of supply. Lead RFQ/RFP processes including bid analysis, proposal evaluation, and sourcing recommendations. Align supply strategies with production schedules, engineering changes, and customer requirements through cross functional collaboration. Drive cost-reduction and value improvement initiatives across direct and indirect procurement categories. Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, communication, and visibility within procurement. Support broader Supply Chain initiatives related to, planning accuracy, supplier alignment, and risk mitigation. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior buyers on best practices, supplier engagement, and problem-solving approaches.

EXPECTATIONS:



Achieve assigned cost-reduction targets annually Communicate supplier issues, risks, and resolutions proactively Maintain complete and accurate procurement records in the ERP system Contribute actively to at least two supply chain improvement or cost-reduction initiatives per year. Identify and qualify one alternate source within 9 months of problem detected.

QUALIFICATIONS:



EDUCATION:



University Degree or College Diploma in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain or related field preferred. PMAC or other Supply Chain continuous learning courses.

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:



Minimum of 5 years of direct procurement experience in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of best purchasing practices, business methods, markets, and cost saving techniques Knowledge of Contracts and contract law Exposure to workplace safety requirements (WHMIS, WSIB requirements and Risk Assessment) Lean Manufacturing, 5S and Continuous Improvement project experience Knowledge of NAFTA, Customs and Export Documentation and INCO terms

SKILLS & ABILITIES:



Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capability Effective negotiator with both principled and positional negotiation skills Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, both verbal and written Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team Excellent organization skills with an ability to multi-task and prioritize. Proficient with relevant computer applications including MS Project, MS Excel, Microsoft
