We are seeking a results-driven Senior Buyer to lead procurement activities within our fast-paced distribution environment. This role is responsible for optimizing supply performance, managing key vendor relationships, and ensuring product availability to improve inventory turns, order fulfillment rates, and overall service levels. The ideal candidate has deep experience in strategic sourcing, demand planning, and inventory management, with a focus on data-driven decision-making and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
Supplier Management
Evaluate, select, and manage key suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective supply of products.
Negotiate pricing, lead times, MOQs, and contract terms to reduce total cost of ownership while maintaining quality.
Conduct quarterly supplier reviews and lead performance improvement initiatives.
Order Fulfillment Performance
Partner with warehouse, logistics, and customer service teams to improve order fill rates, reduce backorders, and meet customer service level agreements (SLAs).
Identify and resolve supply constraints proactively to ensure fulfillment KPIs are met.
Data Analysis & Metrics
Utilize ERP/MRP systems and procurement dashboards to track KPIs, including:
o Inventory Turns Ratio
o Order Fulfillment Rate
o Supplier On-Time Delivery
o Procurement Cost Savings
Provide insights and recommendations to leadership based on spending, usage, and supplier performance analytics.
Leadership & Collaboration
Mentor junior buyers or procurement coordinators; provide training and support in sourcing best practices.
Work closely with sales, demand planning, operations, and finance to align supply with demand.
Contribute to cross-functional projects focused on cost reduction, process efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business, or related field.
5+ years of purchasing or supply chain experience, ideally in a public safety related environment, distribution, wholesale, or logistics-driven environment.
Proven success in improving procurement KPIs, particularly inventory turns and order fulfillment.
Strong negotiation, contract management, and supplier relationship skills.
Advanced Excel and ERP system proficiency (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Certification in supply chain or procurement (e.g., CPSM, CSCP, APICS) is an asset.
Experience with inventory planning tools or forecasting software is an asset.
Familiarity with lean supply chain principles or Six Sigma methodologies for the public sector are assets.
