Title : Senior Business Intelligence Specialist 2-3 Days Onsite/Hybrid)
Location: Toronto, ON , Canada

Description

Responsibilities:
Supports Client\'s wide-ranging business information requirements, implementing and supporting business intelligence software solutions
Develops and supports customized query applications which analyze key business data
Develops and supports guided analysis and drill-down functionality, routine scheduling and notification of report generation, and effective implementation of "opportunity\xe2\x80\x9d and "key-trend\xe2\x80\x9d alerts.
Provides Clients with approach options and tools for managing business-related data in a manner that assists in quantitative analysis of progress and the relationship between operational actions and their effect on business objectives.

General Skills:

  • Experience with analyzing data in source systems to identify data cleanliness issues (e.g. missing values, duplicate meanings, and invalid data)
  • Experience with developing feedback processes to fix corrupt data in the source systems
  • Experience with developing data extraction, transformation, and load programs (daily and initial load) functionality on a wide-range of data repositories (relational and multi- dimensional data stores)
  • Experience with developing, implementing and maintaining schedule/dependency logic for Extract Transform Load (ETL) scripts
  • Experience with developing monitoring and error notification processes to ensure data is updated as designed
  • Experience with developing automation extraction, cleansing and load scripts
  • Experience generating research models and reports (scheduled and ad-hoc)
  • Proven troubleshooting and analytical experience
  • Experience in process decomposition/mapping and business process re-engineering and complex data models using UML.
  • Experience in the use of development tools and business re-engineering software
  • Experience in developing enterprise architecture deliverables (e.g. business, logical, and physical models) based on Enterprise Application Processes and Modeling methodology and guidelines

  • Knowledge and experience in developing data analysis applications
  • Knowledge and understanding of Information Management principles, concepts, policies and practices
  • Ability to provide expert advice in developing and integrating process and information models to enable identifying and eliminating redundant business processes

  • Hands on experience working with stakeholders to develop and document interface specifications design between Business Intelligence solutions and external applications
  • Extensive experience with conceptual, logical and physical data modelling tools like Power Designer, and Visio.

Provide expertise & training to business users:
  • To help develop proposals and feasibility studies for small to medium projects. Conduct technology research, evaluate Analytics tools and produce strategy/direction papers.
  • Provide advice and guidance in the areas of advanced statistical modelling, econometrics tools and techniques.
  • Provide planning advice to the project team on the use of data and building capacity within the Ministry on performing advanced analytics and data analysis.
  • Provide direction on the statistical relevance of data to the project team
Skills and Experience
  • Experience working and communicating directly with business stakeholders; being able to provide guidance and advice to ensure the successful delivery of projects within the required timelines.
  • Experience in working with and analyzing large and diverse data sets, identifying relationships and themes suitable for future policy development concerning post secondary education and training.
  • Strong knowledge of design, development, and implementation experience utilizing Analytics technologies involving the use of administrative postsecondary data.
  • Knowledge of Statistics and modelling techniques such as econometrics, theory of Probability and Statistics - inference based on survey data, confidence intervals, regression models - multinomial linear, logistic, ridge, machine learning algorithms - training, model evaluation, hyper parameters search techniques.
  • Knowledge of advanced data visualization tools and techniques. Knowledge of statistics and analytical tools such as R/SAS/SPSS Expert documentation skills.
  • Knowledge of BI technologies such as R Shiny, Power BI, Tableau.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral); ability to communicate with people in a wide variety of areas and at various levels from technical specialists to senior management.

  • Experience developing data extraction, transformation, and load functionality for large relational and multi-dimensional data stores
  • Experience designing high quality interfaces to present information in a meaningful way to end users
  • Broad understanding of data management, financial and business analysis, database architecture, and information visualization
  • Proficiency in query languages and experience constructing complex query statements Experience in one or more programming or scripting languages

What Knowledge Will Be Transferred:
  • All deliverables, including design/supporting/release/training documents must be checked into designated version control repositories (for example, SharePoint). All final documents and working drafts related to project requirements or solution design must be stored on designated project repositories (for example, SharePoint site, HPQC, TFS)
  • Project manager and designated ministry staff must be regularly informed in writing (by email) of where documentation has been stored and must be provided a minimum of one walk-through of all documentation as part of the final knowledge transfer activities.
How Knowledge Will Be Transferred:
  • Knowledge will be transferred through 1 on 1 sessions, emails, document updates and document review with the team.
7+ years

Must Haves:
  • Demonstrated experience with database design (SQL Server, Oracle)
  • Experience developing BI and analytics Roadmaps for clients (e.g. Microsoft BI)
  • Working knowledge of advanced data visualization tools and techniques (statistical graphics, plots, information graphics). Some tools that would be of interest are Rshiny, Google Analytics, Tableau and Power BI (RShiny or RServer a MUST)
  • Demonstrated experience with a range of analytical methods, techniques and tools: statistical analysis and modelling, data mining, machine learning and algorithms, natural language processing, business performance management, benchmarking text mining, predicative/prescriptive analysis and other related disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience with statistics and modelling techniques such as econometrics, theory of Probability and Statistics - inference based on survey data, confidence intervals, regression models - multinomial linear, logistic, ridge, machine learning algorithms - training, model evaluation, hyper parameters search techniques
