Job Summary
Are you driven by solving complex problems and shaping the future of aviation through data and technology? Join NAV CANADA's Data Analytics team as a Senior Business Analyst and play a key role in delivering innovative solutions that make a real impact on Canada's air navigation system.
As a Senior Business Analyst, you'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of Report Developers, Data Engineers, and fellow Business Analysts. Together, you'll design, build, and support NAV CANADA's suite of reporting applications and data pipelines--critical tools that power business intelligence, operational decision-making, and strategic planning.
Through close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, you will provide strategic leadership to shape technology roadmaps and support enhancements across applications, infrastructure, and services. You'll partner with clients and product teams to ensure our solutions deliver exceptional user experiences and drive tangible business outcomes.
In this role, you'll serve as the bridge between business and technology--acting as a subject matter expert (SME) and trusted advisor across the organization. You'll lead business process analysis and data exploration, translate complex requirements into clear and actionable solutions, and guide the development and implementation of transformative analytics capabilities.

Key Accountabilities:Provide technical and functional leadership in the design, development, and implementation of data-driven initiatives, technology roadmaps, and analytics solutions that align with business objectives and cost efficiency.
Lead and contribute to the development of detailed technical requirements, functional specifications, test strategies, and application configurations across data integration, transformation, and analytics platforms.
Analyze, model, and optimize business processes and data workflows -- documenting current-state systems, identifying bottlenecks, and defining scalable, secure, and efficient future-state solutions.
Conduct in-depth data analysis and validation to assess data quality, develop product performance metrics, and evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of proposed solutions.
Support solution planning and estimation activities, producing accurate timelines and resource requirements for development, testing, and deployment.
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and code review for junior developers and analysts to ensure best practices in data engineering, pipeline automation, and performance optimization.
Lead moderately complex or multiple cross-functional data projects, ensuring alignment across infrastructure, analytics, and business domains.
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to design, deploy, and enhance aviation data and analytics solutions leveraging modern data platforms and technologies (e.g., Azure, Databricks, Power BI).
Job Requirements
Education:Graduated from a recognized university or college with a degree/certification in Engineering, Computer Sciences/Information Technology, Business Administration, MBA and/or Aviation and at least 5+ years related experience.
Experience:5+ years leading and contributing to requirement management, data and systems analysis, development and testing of complex, integrated products and systems.
5+ years supporting planning activities, including providing clear estimates, timelines, and delivery commitments.
5+ years working with cloud platforms, particularly, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure App Services and Azure Databricks.
5+ years developing advanced SQL solutions and working with Microsoft SQL Server; proficient in Python, R, and Scala, with experience in spatial data.
5+ years applying agile product delivery and CI/CD practices using Azure DevOps or similar tools, with experience as a Scrum Facilitator
Knowledge:Strong knowledge of business analysis methodologies, practices, and tools, leveraging Agile and DevOps, as well as software development, formal testing, product acceptance, lifecycle management, and project management processes.
Demonstrated expertise in advanced data analysis, leveraging SQL, Databricks, and programming languages such as Python and R to extract, transform, and interpret complex datasets.
Knowledge of enterprise data architecture, including developing data models to meet requirements for design, storage, integrity and security, as well as dimensional data modelling concepts, star-schema, snowflake, facts and dimension.
Knowledge of data engineering, integration, transformation tools and technologies used to build data pipelines and reporting applications (e.g. Power BI).
Abilities:Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze business requirements, generate actional insights, and recommend effective solutions within time and resource.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and provide concise updates to management and stakeholders.
Proven ability to lead, manage, and prioritize work across multiple projects, acting as a technical advisor to guide and mentor team members.
Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration and build strong working relationships within and across teams and departments.

Working conditions:This position is based at Ottawa Head Office - 151 Slater Street, Ottawa.
This position is a hybrid position with a minimum of 3 days per week on site.
