Responsibilities
Our Planning, Development & Real Estate Department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Building Inspector to join our team. This is a key leadership role responsible for performing complex building inspections, supporting high-quality construction, and providing technical guidance and mentorship to inspection staff. You will help shape safe, sustainable development in one of Vancouver's most dynamic communities.
In this position you will:Conduct advanced and complex building inspections for all construction types.
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and an escalation pathway for inspection staff.
Ensure compliance with the BC Building Code, City bylaws, and related regulations.
Work closely with builders, designers, applicants, and internal staff to support safe and compliant development.
Support the Chief Building Official with complaints, enforcement matters, reports, and bylaw updates.
Contribute to ongoing improvements in permitting and inspection processes, including digital modernization.
Requirements
The successful candidate will possess:Diploma of Technology in Building or a related field.
Significant related experience in municipal inspections and/or building construction.
BOABC Level III Building Official certification (required).
Class 5 B.C. Driver's License.
Other Assets include:POABC Level I or II Plumbing Official certification
Experience with electronic plan review and inspection software
Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
Compensation
$50.13 to $59.23 per hour
(Pay Grade 28 - January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
