The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.Position OverviewThe incumbent is a fully capable working Biomedical Engineering Technologist with leadership responsibilities for groupings of clinical programs/areas or specialized technology. In addition to the regular duties of a BMET II, the incumbent is responsible for service coordination, work allocation, staff coordination, work systems, and ensuring the availability of and procuring technical resource material needed by the department. He/she will authorize parts purchases within established spending limits and act as a resource to programs or departments on equipment service issues. He/she will teach the Clinical Engineering staff the proper use of clinical, test and work systems. The incumbent will also demonstrate repair and maintenance methods, policies and procedures, etc., and provide technical assistance and guidance to other departmental staff. He/she will coordinate and administer established Special Service Programs.The incumbent is responsible for repair, performance assurance, preventative maintenance, and other technical work including incoming inspection of equipment, broad-based clinical technical support of assigned hospital departments, equipment modification, instrument development, risk management, electrical safety activities, teaching medical and nursing staff, evaluation of equipment, product acquisition, coordination of outside contractors, vendors, agencies and other departments, attending service courses, carrying out Special Service Programs, administrative duties and CE staff development. May participate in the development or modification of Clinical Engineering programs or projects.The incumbent will interface with internal and external clients to understand and conceptualize requirements, offering creative suggestions to fulfill deliverables. This person will be perceived by customers as an expert in the Clinical Engineering field.The incumbent works directly with a wide variety of health care professionals (physicians, nurses, allied health, and support), as well as patients, in the course of his/her duties.The incumbent may be required to test, repair and maintain electromedical and related equipment at other facilities during normal and outside normal working hours.The incumbent carries out all tasks in a manner consistent with accepted departmental programs, policies, guidelines, and practices, and in accordance with the Collective Agreement.Experience

  • Minimum of six years\' experience directly related to Clinical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering is required, with a minimum of three years at a Biomedical Technologist II level.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Graduation from an Electronics Technology or specific Biomedical Engineering Technology program required.
  • Must have, or obtain within two years of incumbency, training through recognized computer hardware and software courses.
  • The position requires a demonstrated knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology; could be obtained by CD, class, distance or self-study, if not previously obtained. Must have, or obtain within eighteen months, a recognized supervisory skills course.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Must be certified as an Electronic Engineering Technologist by CTTAM (Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba Inc.).
  • Certification as a Certified Biomedical Engineering Technologist (CBET c) with The Canadian Board of Examiners for Biomedical Engineering Technologists and Technicians.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Must have strong leadership ability, very good English communication skills, both written and oral, and very good interpersonal skills.
  • Must maintain a mature, professional manner and appearance.
  • Must have very good organizational and time management skills, the ability to grasp concepts quickly, and a strong customer service focus.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and make decisions using sound judgment.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in PC use and office productivity software applications such as word processor, spreadsheet and database are required.
  • Must have willingness and adaptability to work flexible shifts as requested.
Physical Requirements
  • Position involves walking fairly long distances, long periods of standing, and lifting equipment, supplies, parts, etc. (approximately 25 kg).
  • The position routinely involves working with small delicate instrumentation requiring manual dexterity and normal vision, with or without correction.
  • Incumbents may be exposed to solvents used as cleaning agents for solder flux remover, switch cleaners and other chemicals used in electronic maintenance.
