Annual salary range $96,363.77 - $111,404.67

What\'s this position about?

As a Senior Assessment Officer, you will identify the potential environmental and socio-economic impacts of the proposed Casino Mine, provide environment assessment expertise, and develop recommendations for review by YESAB\'s Executive Committee or Panel. Reporting to the Panel and Hearing Manager, who is the project manager for the Panel Review, the Senior Assessment Officer implements environmental and socio-economic assessment strategies, policies, guidelines, systems, standards, and processes to inform the Panel review.

The Senior Assessment Officer is responsible for:

  • Informing the Panel\'s environmental and socio-economic assessments of the proposed Casino Mine
  • Providing input into the development of information requests
  • Preparing detailed reports that clearly present assessment outcomes
  • Communicating Panel Review assessment processes with First Nations, Yukon Government, Government of Canada, community members, project proponents, stakeholder groups, and the public
  • Participating in and supporting the Panel & Hearing Manager and Panel members during community meetings, public hearings, or technical workshops.
What knowledge, skills and abilities do I need for this role?

Having a degree in Environmental Science, Social Science or a similar degree, with general knowledge of Yukon Environment and Socio-economic Assessment Act, as well as Yukon First Nations and First Nations Agreements, is required. Recent experience in completing environmental and socio-economic assessments is an asset, as is experience in one or more of the three following knowledge areas:
  • Socio-cultural valued components
  • Wildlife
  • Aquatic resources
Strong conflict resolution, organizational, and negotiation skills will contribute to the success of this position. Experience in managing special projects involving complex issues would be a strong preference to excel and support the collective YESAB team.
