Annual salary range $92,435.27 - $106,862.99

What's this position about?

As a Senior Assessment Officer, you will be a skilled project manager that manages resources to identify the environmental and socio-economic impacts of proposed projects, as well as develop recommendations for review by the Executive Committee or YESAB Panel. Senior Assessment Officers also participate in the development and implementation of environmental and socio-economic assessment strategies, policies, guidelines, systems, standards, and processes. This position participates in public forums as needed and leads in developing and building relationships with participants in our process.

The Senior Assessment Officer is responsible for:

  • Conducting environmental and socio-economic assessments of projects in the Yukon
  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams as a project manager with the goal of identifying environment and socio-economic effects of projects
  • Preparing detailed screening reports that present assessment outcomes
  • Participating in negotiations, coordination and development of assessment standards, requirements, and agreements
  • Communicating assessment processes with First Nations, Yukon Government, Government of Canada, communities, project proponents, stakeholder groups, and the public
  • Participating in the development of new processes for conducting assessments.
What knowledge, skills and abilities do I need for this role?

Having a degree in Environmental Science, Social Science or a similar degree, with general knowledge of Yukon Environment and Socio-economic Assessment Act, as well as Yukon First Nations and First Nations Agreements, is required.

Strong project management, conflict resolution, organizational, and negotiation skills will contribute to the success of this position. Experience in managing special projects involving complex issues would be a strong preference to excel and support the collective YESAB team.
