Why is this role important?
The Senior Analyst plays a key role in supporting CIHI's Ontario Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) program for hip and knee replacements. This includes the development of comparative measures and comparable reports for health system monitoring purposes, performing data quality and reporting activities, and providing client support for analytical and data quality reporting. The Senior Analyst will lead the data management activities for PROMs, including preparing data files for the Ministry of Health and external stakeholders, and responding to client requests for information.
What you'll do
1. Works with the Lead on data management and the production of key deliverables for external dissemination, including quarterly progress reports, custom data requests, and relevant documentation.
2. Conducts data management activities including writing and updating statistical code required for the development, computation, analysis, and/or verification of key deliverables. This includes support for the release of quarterly data cuts and progress reports to external stakeholders and leading the data quality checks to ensure accuracy of the reported results in adherence with CIHI's corporate information quality framework.
3. Develops and maintains a detailed knowledge of hip and knee replacement and generic PROMs tools, and other databases used by the Ontario PROMs Program such as the Canadian Joint Replacement Registry (CJRR), the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS).
4. Updates and maintains detailed knowledge of data, tools and analytical techniques related to the PROMs standards, minimum data set data dictionary and other documentation needed for program operations.
5. Leads and/ or contributes to ON PROMs data submission and preparation activities, working with external data providers and other team members, ensuring timely receipt of the data, tracking submissions and data quality issues.
6. Leads and/ or contributes to the development of analytical methodologies and measures that support the ability to compare PROMs within Ontario, including risk-adjustment techniques.
7. Leads and/ or contributes to the development of analytical products, data quality products, and promotional and information material (e.g., conference presentations, stakeholder information). Performs quantitative analyses on data from ON PROMs and administrative databases using R and Python.
8. Provides professional and timely client support to respond to internal and external client queries as required.
9. Ensures adherence to, and ability to demonstrate compliance with, CIHI's privacy and security policies and procedures when using CIHI data and information.
10. Participates in meetings with external stakeholders and internal/external projects and activities as required.
What you'll bring to the table
  • Undergraduate degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Health Information Sciences, or equivalent education/experience. A graduate degree is an asset.
  • Three to five years related experience working with relational databases / large datasets, including analyzing large, cross-sectional and longitudinal databases; and manipulating, maintaining, preparing data and presenting analyses and reports for different audiences.
  • Proficiency with Python and/ or R programing languages is essential.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of quantitative statistical methods and applied experience in the preparation of information products to inform health system performance and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, interpret and effectively present key analytical findings for different audiences is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with
minimal supervision.
  • Proven effective written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
