Total Fund Management Department

The Total Fund Management ("TFMaEUR) department focuses on management of total fund activities across all investment horizons that will have a dynamic and direct impact on the Fund's overall performance. It is responsible for the successful implementation of the Fund's investment framework. These activities are focused primarily on the Strategic Portfolio, our long-term vision for the intended investment portfolio composition five or more years into the future. TFM also works with the active Investment Departments to effectively characterize and allocate to active investment strategies, with the aim of delivering the Strategic Portfolio over time. TFM also works on the total Fund daily investment cycle, including all the processes, systems, and data needed to structure the investment portfolio in response to the on-going flow of cash and exposures into and out of the Fund. TFM also performs centralized trading to manage execution risk across all public assets (excluding credit) and markets on behalf of all investment departments. TFM consists of six groups: Active Investment Management; Applied Research and Models; Exposure, Leverage and Liquidity Management; Portfolio Design & Construction; Strategy & Operations; and Trading.

We are presently recruiting for a Senior Analyst join the Business Management team within the Strategy & Operations group in the Total Fund Management department. Reporting to the lead of Governance, Financial Management & Technology stream, the Senior Analyst will help the Strategy & Operations team define, prioritize, and deliver on key initiatives critical to CPP Investments.

As a member of the team providing centralized support to the Chief Investment Officer, the Senior Analyst will support a wide range of activities, broadly classified into three areas: (1) Governance and Compliance, (2) Financial Planning and Analysis, (3) Technology.

Role-Specific Accountabilities:

Governance and Compliance
  • Support coordination of Investment Governance activities including the creation of new Governance documents and managing the approval cycle for existing documentation.
  • Coordinate key compliance activities within the department and assist in creating new processes to ensure compliance with various governance requirements, balancing robust controls with efficient processes for the department to follow.
  • Build departmental relationships to effectively collaborate on key activities and connect with business management peers across the Fund to share and understand best practices.
Financial Planning
  • Assist with annual financial planning cycle to set the department operating budget and validate cost objectives.
  • Assist monthly operating cost reporting, highlighting key trends and preparing analysis into the underlying drivers. Develop and update monthly forecasts of key cost categories.
  • Assist with quarterly investment cost forecasting, comparing actual costs against cost expectations and collaborating with TFM team leads to understand the impacts of strategy changes on our investment cost profile.
  • Identify and escalate potential issues in data, analysis, and processes.
  • Provide timely, accurate and relevant information/analysis that facilitates better decision making and brings value-added insight to data received.
Technology
  • Manage department file storage and communication hubs, offering guidance and publishing best practices to enable department to effectively store and share information in line with access management principles
  • Support annual and on-going prioritization of technology-driven initiatives, acting as liaison between various technology teams and representatives within the department
  • Assist department members with technology-related requests to help them understand related policies and refer them to the appropriate partners in Technology and Data
Team
  • Engage in on-going cultural initiatives, in close collaboration with department Talent Council.
  • Provide support as needed to take minutes for investment committees, synthesizing key themes in a clear concise manner and noting action items
Other duties as required, including the opportunity to support project management of key initiatives.

Qualifications

If you possess the following, we'd like to hear from you:
  • A bachelors or graduate degree in business, finance, mathematics, or engineering
  • 2-3 years of work experience in a dynamic role in the financial services industry
  • Superior analytical skills and a strong attention to detail and understanding of how to summarize messages
  • Ability to effectively manage toward timelines on multiple concurrent initiatives, keeping managers and colleagues apprised of progress and seeking assistance as required
  • Self-motivated, organized, flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and new challenges
  • High degree of personal responsibility for quality of work and timelines, with a proven track record of leveraging feedback to improve the process and quality of end product
  • Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and work in a high-performing culture, under pressure and with time-sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, and exercise good judgment
  • Highly effective interpersonal and relationship building skills; high degree of professionalism
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Exemplify our Guiding Principles of Integrity, Partnership and High Performance
  • Achievement or pursuit of professional designations such as the CFA are a plus
