What does this role look like?

The CBE understands the future of work is flexible. In this role, you are eligible to participate in a flexible work program that allows you to work remotely for up to three days a week. A minimum of two days must be in the office. At certain times, you maybe be required to work in the office more then 2 days per week based on operational requirements.

Purpose




The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) recognizes that psychological and physical well-being is fundamental to all employees in order to provide a quality learning environment for students.


This position is accountable for representing employee wellbeing in HR program design and implementation. As well, the Senior Advisor, Employee Well-Being will support leaders to make decisions about managing their employees relative to employee wellness in support of operational objectives. The Senior Advisor, Employee Well-Being is responsible for promoting the overall health and wellness of all employees through program, policy and/or service initiatives designed to support and educate our employees regarding their health and wellness so they can perform at their best.

Major Responsibilities


This position is accountable for:

Organizational Effectiveness



Compilation and analysis of wellness and health related data to inform decision making, and strategic direction as it relates to employee wellbeing. Provide advice to leaders who are considering changes to how work is performed, staff are deployed, or how a school or department is organized as it relates to employee wellbeing and the prevention of illness or injury. Working with cross-functional teams, the Employee Well-Being Advisor will coordinate employee well-being programming with a focus on early intervention and prevention. Programming will be informed by CBE system initiatives, assessment of data and the wellness needs of individual CBE schools and sites. Support creation and implementation of leadership development initiatives with specific attention to practices that promote psychological safety in alignment with the CBE Working Relationship Commitment. Provides advice to supervisory staff responsible for maximizing employee performance while supporting psychological and occupational safety standards, and ensuring compliance with CBE Administrative Regulations, collective agreements, employment legislation, and accepted human resources practices. Subject matter expert with respect to employee well-being best practices in partnership with The Employee Health Resource Centre, HR Advisory Services, Talent Management, and Total Rewards systems. Acting as a consultant with respect to employee well-being best practice through the collective bargaining process. Develops and maintains strong relationships with community resources, union partners and other external strategic partners in order to optimize use of resources.

People Development:



Supports management in the identification of employee learning needs as they relate to employee wellness. Partners with the School Improvement team to ensure appropriate training and development solutions are implemented with adherence to national standards and other employee well-being best practices. Supporting CBE employees to achieve and maintain good health and well-being through a full spectrum of wellness programs. These include, but are not limited to, preventative health services, health promotion, and awareness. In collaboration with the CBE communications team, create and maintain employee wellness themed content for various venues that could include intranet/internet sites, newsletters, posters, brochures and emails.

Employee and Labour Relations



Serves as an employee wellbeing best practice resource to management; providing policy interpretation and advice on the selection, movement, and displacement of staff in a manner consistent with CBE Administrative Regulations, collective agreements, employment legislation, and accepted human resources practices. Providing operational leadership in the employee well-being portfolio and responsible for overall strategic development of policy and programs. This includes planning, managing and coordination of wellness and health promotion programs. Exercising independent judgement in prioritizing, planning, scheduling, organizing, coordinating and monitoring of workload while ensuring effective and efficient outcomes, best practices and alignment with the CBE objectives and strategies.

Qualifications


Education and Experience



University Degree in a health related field (Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or related), or Human Resources with a working knowledge of mental health, initiatives in preventative medicine, wellness or health promotion. Master's degree is preferred. Current registration or professional designation is an asset (RPsych, ROT, RSW, CHRP etc.). A minimum of five to seven years of experience in the area of evaluation, program planning with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of wellness service delivery in a large, multi-union workplace setting as well as experience working with multidisciplinary teams. Preference will be given to applicants who possess project management experience, change management skills, gap analysis, knowledge of needs assessments, program evaluation methodologies, leadership training and who have past experience working in a Human Resources wellness and/or health management discipline. Knowledge and experience with adult learning principles and design. This position requires personal transportation to conduct job responsibilities.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

Knowledge of employee well-being best practices, including familiarity with diversity and inclusion practices and knowledge of national standards that relate to well-being. Well developed skills in data analysis, communication, problem solving, and strategic thinking, influencing and consulting. Knowledge and skill with presentation development and public speaking. Knowledge of or ability to learn Alberta Education Standards, the School Act, CBE Administrative Regulations, and Three-Year Education Plan. Adaptability to a rapidly changing environment; demonstrated reliability and ability to be flexible. Ability to create positive relationships, establish rapport and work effectively. Ability to work in a fluid environment with a focus on delivery of results. Strong conflict resolution and mediation skills. Strong time management, prioritization, multitasking and organizational skills. Strong ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Professionalism, tact, courtesy and diplomacy skills with understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality. Ability to work with others and build strong relationships.
