Job Description

This Senior Advisor position will drive corporate communication to advance Covenant Health's strategic plans and demonstrate accountability to internal and external stakeholders. The selected candidate will lead high-impact projects, collaborating with experts in writing, digital media and design to craft compelling narratives. The role will advise senior leaders on corporate initiatives, internal communications and change management, addressing emerging issues and delivering solutions aligned with organizational goals. The successful candidate will shape public perception through storytelling and media strategies, highlighting organizational contributions; develop engaging content for articles, social media, corporate publications, and media relations while strengthening annual reporting; build a collaborative communications team and establish key partnerships with leadership, healthcare professionals, government entities and media; guide executives, colleagues and external partners, refining digital and leadership skills; and lead crisis management, ensuring seamless media responses and content execution. Our selected candidate will also support client areas in engagement, marketing and change management through communication strategies; implement plans that foster staff connection while keeping projects on time and within budget; manage sensitive information with discretion, offering insights requiring negotiation, advocacy and problem-solving; oversee communications project management across Covenant, advising on priorities, risk and return on investment; and manage communication activities, develop materials for newsletters, websites and social media while ensuring timely completion. This is an opportunity to provide professional guidance to leadership through analysis, advocacy and tactical recommendations. This is a non-union position.

Required Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, arts, social sciences, business administration or a related field. Alternatively, candidates with a relevant diploma, a professional designation from IABC or CPRS, and a minimum of eight years of experience in a complex public sector environment will also be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

With five to seven years of experience in strategic communications, this candidate excels in planning, implementing and evaluating initiatives while advising senior leaders or managing high-impact projects. They bring expertise in issues management, crisis communications and media relations, effectively responding to challenges that impact organizational reputation. Their extensive background includes conceptualizing, researching and developing comprehensive communications plans and materials, such as news articles, social media strategies and digital content. Possessing strong project management skills, they adeptly oversee timelines, budgets, team dynamics and stakeholder engagement. With deep proficiency in internal communications and digital platforms, they navigate electronic communications with ease. Highly organized and adaptable, they efficiently balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment while maintaining a strategic and results-driven approach. They possess collaborative and relationship building skills, adaptability and innovative thinking to navigate change. They have a continuous improvement and leadership growth mindset, and the ability to manage tight deadlines on emerging issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in healthcare and public sector communications, experience in digital content creation, community engagement and event management. Commitment to Covenant's core values. Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to apply best practices and emerging trends in communications and technology. This role requires flexibility, including scheduled and emergent after-hours communications support and occasional provincial travel.
