UVic Law\'s undergraduate professional programs include the Juris Doctor (JD) and the world\'s first joint degree in Canadian Common Law and Indigenous Legal Orders (JD/JID).*This position is eligible for a Modified Work Schedule*Job SummaryReporting to the Recruitment and Admissions Officer, the Senior Admissions Assistant is dedicated to supporting the Admissions Office for applicants applying to the JD and JD/JID programs, transfer applicants, visiting students and National Committee on Accreditation applicants. This position will work closely with faculty, students and staff, handling a wide range of administrative duties relating to Admissions to the Faculty of Law. This position provides leadership to one other staff member and has key administrative support responsibilities in a wide variety of undergraduate admissions, administrative, and financial tasks.Responsibilities include providing accurate information, advice and guidance regarding University and Faculty of Law Admission policies and procedures to students, faculty, and staff. This staff member contributes to an excellent working environment by being welcoming, knowledgeable and culturally sensitive, and by maintaining privacy and confidentiality. They are responsible for responding to enquiries from potential and current applicants, processing applications, performing initial examination of applications, creating, updating and maintaining records, assisting with recruitment activities and special events, and performing general office duties.This position also provides administrative support to the Financial Aid Officer, on an as needed basis. Responsibilities include answering inquiries from law students applying for bursaries, managing supporting documents and mail merges, creating tracking spreadsheets and performing general office duties.Job RequirementsSkills:

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive tasks, projects and unexpected situations successfully in a busy office environment.
  • Ability to effectively assess, organize and carry out work processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communications skills required for working effectively with all levels of the university community, exercising tact and diplomacy.

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to oversee and direct work of others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and abide by privacy protocols.
  • Advanced proficiency with computer applications (e.g. MS-Office Suite, etc.) including advanced knowledge and experience working with Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to enter large amounts of information quickly, while maintaining accuracy.
  • Strong cultural and inter-societal acumen is required, and in particular Indigenous acumen.
Specialized Knowledge/Education:
Advanced knowledge of Banner and FAST would be an asset.Experience:
