The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is located in south-central British Columbia, with dozens rural and urban communities spread across 44,300 square kilometres. The TNRD provides more than 120 local government services to approximately 144,000 people in 10 Electoral Areas, 11 member municipalities, and 25 First Nations.


The TNRD is headquartered in the City of Kamloops, the largest community within the regional district. The Role:




The Senior Accounting Technician leads complex financial reporting and analysis, interprets accounting standards, and drives policy development to support strategic decision-making and organizational compliance.


The primary responsibilities of this role include:


Oversee long-term debt and capital asset accounting, including acquisitions, disposals, reconciliations, and reporting. Prepare legislated financial reports and interpret accounting standards (PSAS, GAAP) for compliance and policy development. Perform complex reconciliations, variance analysis, and review team members' work for accuracy. Lead process and policy development; act as a subject matter expert for the finance team. Maintain strong controls over general ledger master data and ensures that the integrity of the financial reporting framework is maintained. Provide coaching and mentoring to accounting staff. Research and draft accounting position papers and standards interpretation memos. Prepare and review year-end working papers, financial statements, and disclosures.

This full-time, permanent position is based out of the TNRD Civic Building which is located in the heart of downtown sunny Kamloops. The vibrant TNRD Civic Building also houses the Kamloops Downtown Library, the Kamloops Art Gallery and a busy cafe.


Job Requirements

Education and Experience:




University degree Accounting, or related field Professional Accounting designation (CPA or equivalent), or an equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience completing statutory reporting (eg. SOFI, Sales tax returns, LGDE, LGCAP).

Qualifications that will be considered an asset:


Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards Experience with Vadim, SAGE Accounting, and Caseware

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:


Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to manage complex projects and drive process improvements. Proficiency in MS Office, accounting software, and organizational database systems Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License.





This position falls under the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 900. The placement of the Senior Accounting Technician is at Pay Grade 8, which is $39.61 to $45.83 per hour (2025 Rates). This position requires a clear Criminal Record Check and the submission of a driver's abstract.
