What You Will Do
--------------------
As the Senior Accounting Analyst, you will use your financial acumen and knowledge of financial accounting and statutory reporting policies, processes and controls to oversee, perform, or support various activities in the preparation of financial statements for TTC and its subsidiaries.
In addition, you will act as lead control performer for the section, which includes reviewing and approving monthly journal entries (JE) and reconciliations performed by other section staff, using judgement to review the accuracy and completeness of their work, pro-actively following up on corrections for identified errors, and informing the Assistant Manager of any recurring or significant problems encountered.
You will also support the adherence to technical accounting processes and procedures and the implementation of new accounting standards by identifying/summarizing impacts, preparing documentation/training, and acting as a consultative resource.
You will prepare monthly analysis on the balance sheet, which include overseeing transactional activity of TTC business partners and their Business Partner Support teams, leading investigations to identify and follow-up on unusual transactions, guiding the correction of errors and guiding the development of new and/or corrective procedures and policies.
You will be responsible for providing accounting services and/or financial reporting, including as related to TTC subsidiaries and employee benefit accounting. This includes reviewing the accuracy of statements, and reviewing actuary reports and forecasting to ensure they are properly reflected in the accounting.
The successful candidate will support the TTC's year-end close, including chairing the Finance year-end progress review meetings and acting as key contact for audit submissions.
What Qualifications Do You Bring?

Completion of a post-secondary education, including courses in accounting, combined with related experience
Must be enrolled in the CPA program (or equivalent) to obtain recognized accounting designation
Possession of a recognized Canadian accounting designation such as CPA, CA, CMA, CGA is preferred
Demonstrated work experience with SAP is preferred
Knowledge of accounting principles and practices related to financial record-keeping, journal entry preparation, account analysis and reconciliation, and financial statement lead sheets and consolidation entries
Knowledge of current accounting and auditing principles and practices as described in the CPA Canada Handbook, the Public Sector Accounting Standards, Canadian Auditing Standards and other official pronouncements (e.g. International Financial Reporting Standards or International Public Sector Accounting Standards)
Knowledge of various internal controls over financial reporting and how to use these controls to mitigate financial reporting risks inherent in large, complex and changing IT systems
Advanced proficiency in the use of computers and computer applications especially Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook); must be able to the work with data, in particular managing, organizing and interpreting large volume of data using Microsoft Excel (including, but not limited to, advanced functions such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, IF Statements, and SUMIFS)
Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills including ability to apply 'Big Picture' thinking when identifying, analyzing, and linking issues
Ability to exercise judgement to identify unusual transactions, balances or circumstances for investigation and follow-up
Strong mathematical skills and excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to perform work accurately
Open-minded, flexible and comfortable working in an environment of change and process improvements
Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to handle inquiries efficiently and effectively, and resolve issues with current team members, supervisor, other departments or external parties with tact and tenacity
Well-organized in order to meet tight deadlines and prioritize the significant amount of daily workflow
