We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our client's team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In this role, you will oversee key financial operations, mentor team members, and contribute to the preparation and analysis of financial statements. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with leadership and play a pivotal role in driving financial accuracy and efficiency.
Responsibilities:

  • Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash receipt processes across the organization, ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and financial system processes to support organizational goals.
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting team, including assigning work, reviewing outputs, and identifying training needs.
  • Oversee bank account management and assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports by analyzing and summarizing account data.
  • Take on special projects and provide ad hoc reporting as requested by senior management.
  • Conduct analytical reviews of balance sheet reconciliations alongside the Controller.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and ensure the timely distribution of accurate financial reports to key stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development of branch budgets by analyzing historical data and creating detailed working papers.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of year-end financial statements and supporting documentation, including reconciliation of assets, liabilities, and expenditures.
  • Coordinate with external tax teams to provide necessary documentation and ensure compliance with all tax regulations.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in financial software systems and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of engaging with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the capacity to handle pressure and meet tight deadlines.
