Job Description


ComNav, a privately held marine autopilot and precision products manufacturer has a Senior Accountant opportunity for the right individual. The Senior Accountant will work as a member of the management team providing accurate and timely information to all the stakeholders as required. This position is responsible for overseeing accounting, human resources and office administration. The position reports to CEO and accountable to the Senior Management Team for monitoring and achieving company\xe2\x80\x99s Key Performance Initiatives (KPI\xe2\x80\x99s) that meet business\xe2\x80\x99s financial objectives. This individual is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, cash management, maintenance of accounting records, and executing controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhancing accurate reported financial results, ensuring reported results comply with the general accepted accounting principles, internationally financial reporting standards, corporate policies and external audits.   • Participates with the Senior Management team to monitor and achieve KPIs, execute programs to support company\xe2\x80\x99s strategic plans, monitoring and reporting on indicators; communicating, recommendations on financial metrics to senior management
  • Maximizes return on assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems
  • Monitors and guides financial decisions by establishing, enforcing policies and procedures
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls, ensuring compliance and fraud preventative measures
  • Ownership of the budgeting, cash flow and forecasting; Coordinates departmental budgets by establishing schedules, analyzing and consolidating financial data, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, initiating corrective actions, reporting trends and recommending financial plan
  • Liaise and work with external accountants for review engagement and tax filing within 75 days of year end for delivery to financial institutions by within 90 days of year end
  • Organize with team and external advisors for SRED claim filing within 90 days of year end
  • Monthly, quarterly, annual financial statement bank reporting and insurance
  • Ensure all statutory, legal and regulatory responsibilities are met, all direct and indirect tax compliance and the annual audit process (including GST, PST, WCB, tax returns) for all corporations
  • Administer strict confidentiality controls and processes on sensitive financial, employee, plans and other pertinent contracts where required
  • Coordinate with operations year end inventory counts, review to administer increased inventory turns, inventory cost reduction programs, reduce fixed and variable overhead costs for improved financial return
  • Prepares financial statements and reconcile all bank accounts within 15 days of month-end
  • Oversee, lead and improve performance of timely invoicing, A/P and A/R departments,
  • Oversee policies, controls, reporting for MRP, Great Plains accounting systems, Crystal Reports MIS, for increasing accuracy and performance on financial reporting
  • Review credit applications, insurance, credit limits, procedures for payment and shipping authorizations
  • Conduct cheque runs, payment releases, upon purchase order controls and payment terms with supplier, purchasing and operations for timely release of production; enhance communication with suppliers
  • Automate financial transactions with assurance on controls, reporting, etc.
  • Organize and maintain all service contracts (equipment, maintenance, leases, utilities, landlord, finance, business licenses, insurance, etc.)
  • Organize and maintain all records of key assets and liabilities (intellectual property, trademarks, copyrights, loan agreement contracts, vehicles, capital equipment, fixed assets, etc.)
  • Administer programs to enhance financial performance (revenues, GM, ebitda, net income, cash flow)
  • Any other accounting, financial, human resource and admin related task approved and directed by CEO
Human Resources & Administration
  • Confidentially manage records and administer biweekly Payroll, extended health benefit, vacation, sick leave, severance, employee files, employee records, regular performance reviews, and other compliance required to meet employee policies and regulations including responding to any employee grievances
  • Administer and execute with the VP, Operations, company Employee Policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Code of Conduct (COC) compliance with human rights and other employee standards;
  • Develop strategy and implement an employee recruitment, hiring, training, reviews, confidentiality, communication with employees, while leading to maintain a positive and productive work culture
  • Administer with VP, Operations and liaise with external IT Department and ERP software to maintain integrity, insurance, cross-training, safety, procedures
Competencies:
  • Strong leadership, exceptional communicator both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical, organizational skills coupled with high attention to detail
  • Strong reporting experience preparing financial statements and business analysis
  • Solid team player & proven ability to influence cross-functional teams of different disciplines, including employees, suppliers, customers and other stakeholders to achieve financial performance
  • Demonstrate high level of integrity, confidentiality, professionalism and accountability
  • Adaptive and self-driven to meet or exceed best practices, on timely reporting
Requirements:
  • CPA (CA, CGA or CMA) designation and a bachelors degree in accounting is required
  • Minimum 5 years+ in full cycle accounting experience preferably in a manufacturing company
  • Excellent technical skills in data management and advance Excel knowledge
  • Knowledge of Great Plains Accounting software (preferred)
