About the position



This is a client-facing Experienced Accountant role focused on preparing all types of client engagement files including compilation, review and special-purpose audit engagements, in addition to personal and corporate tax returns and directly assisting in the tax planning process.

The successful candidate will be an integral member of the growing professional services team and will report primarily to both an Assurance/Tax Manager and an Accounting Manager and will also have the opportunity to work directly alongside the Managing Director of the firm. You will be assigned a group of clients to manage enquiries and requests from, with the support of a manager.

The firm's back-office services--including bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable, and a newly established fractional CFO offering--represent an increasingly in-demand segment of our practice. In this role, you will deliver quarterly reporting and assist with business performance review for these clients.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS



Preference will be offered to applicants who have at least 2-3 years of experience in a public accounting environment. No industry focus required. We have clients in a wide variety of industries.

Experience preparing compilation engagement financial statements (financial information) and simple individual income tax returns is required. Experience preparing complex individual income tax returns (business income / rental income) is preferred.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES



Preparation of Compilation engagement financial information (NTR)

Preparation of year-end adjusting entries and financial statements Preparation of corporate tax returns and HST returns Management compensation and tax planning Investment portfolio accounting
Preparation of assurance engagement files (review and audit)

Preparation of planning, risk assessment and substantive procedures Assurance experience (review and audit) and familiarity with Canada Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) is considered an asset Note - our assurance practice consists of a relatively small number of review engagements, compared to compilation and tax engagements, and only several special-purpose audit engagements per year.
Preparation/review of T1 Individual income tax returns

Preparation of business income and rental income summaries using client provided data Review work performed by Junior Accountants and co-op students
Management of internal reporting / bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online (QBO)

Review work performed by bookkeepers Preparation of quarterly reporting packages and communication with clients

SOFTWARE / APP STACK



Preference offered to applicants experienced with the following apps in the Accounting Tech Stack:

Excellent working knowledge of QuickBooks Online (QBO) and Xero

QBO is used by over 90% of our bookkeeping client base Experience working with Caseware Working Papers and Caseview Financial Statements Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) Experience with other apps such as Wagepoint, Plooto, Wave Accounting, Dext, etc.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS



Annual salary to be based on skills & experience. Paid vacation days and health benefits will be provided.

This is a remote-based position (you will work from your home-office).
