Position Overview



We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. This is a full-time,

in-office role

(not remote or hybrid), Monday to Friday. The Senior Accountant will lead assurance, tax, accounting, and advanced bookkeeping assignments while mentoring junior staff and advising clients on financial and tax matters. The ideal candidate is a proactive professional with strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for helping clients grow their businesses.

Key Responsibilities



Financial Reporting & Assurance:

- Prepare, review, and finalize year-end financial statements (ASPE compilations and review engagements).
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with professional standards and firm policies.
- Lead engagements from planning to completion, including review and compilation files.

Tax Compliance & Advisory:

- Prepare and review corporate, personal, and trust tax returns (T1, T2, T3, T4, T5).
- Ensure compliance with the Canada Income Tax Act and CRA filing requirements.
- Provide business advisory services including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Identify tax planning and optimization opportunities for clients.

Advanced Bookkeeping & Client Accounting:

- Manage complex bookkeeping assignments for advanced clients, including full-cycle bookkeeping, reconciliations, and workflow improvements.
- Review bookkeeping work completed by junior/intermediate staff for accuracy and compliance.
- Assist clients with setup, transition, and optimization of accounting systems (e.g., QBO, Sage).

Client & CRA Relations:

- Communicate directly with clients regarding accounting, tax, and bookkeeping matters.
- Liaise with the CRA on client files as needed.
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based client relationships.

Team Leadership & Development:

- Supervise, mentor, and train junior and intermediate staff.
- Review and provide feedback on working paper files, tax returns, and bookkeeping files.
- Support CPA students in their professional development journey.

Process Improvement & Technology:

- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and workflows.
- Leverage technology and accounting software to enhance service delivery.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving tax rules and accounting standards.

Qualifications



- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Certification: Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing, or near completion of CFE.
- Experience: Minimum 3+ years of progressive public practice experience.

- Technical Skills:

Proficiency with CaseWare, TaxCycle (or similar tax software), QuickBooks (QBO/Desktop), and Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced Excel knowledge required.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of ASPE, Canadian taxation, and full-cycle bookkeeping.

- Soft Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
