Senior Accountant

Leduc County, Nisku, Alberta

The opportunity

Leduc County is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our team. Reporting to the Manager - Financial Services, this exciting opportunity coordinates the financial reporting for grants, the capital budget and reporting processes, and works closely with senior management on corporate strategic initiatives and special projects. Through effectively managing priorities, the Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the achievement of the department\'s operational deliverables.

Key Responsibilities Include:

What you will do
  • Coordinates and monitors grant application processes and financial reporting requirements.
  • Reviews and complies with grant eligibility and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborates with other departments to research and investigate potential grant opportunities.
  • Collaborates and supports departments with grant applications.
  • Collaborates with all County departments to coordinate the capital budget and reporting processes.
  • Evaluates the capital and asset needs of the organization and analyzes opportunities for funding.
  • Reviews project profile document business cases and works with department heads to modify as needed.
  • Collects and consolidates information from all departments to create the ten-year long-range financial plan.
  • Coordinates and supports the capital fund year-end processes.
  • Coordinates, analyzes, and manages the accounting processes related to tangible capital assets.
  • Coordinates, analyzes, and manages the accounting processes related to contributed assets including reviewing construction completion certificates and final acceptance certificates.
  • Collaborates with all County departments to complete the major and capital projects quarterly reporting requirements.
  • Contributes to asset management program by incorporating asset management principles and practices into the budget process.
  • Completes the accounting processes for County owned investments.
  • Researches and carries out special projects, studies and reports as assigned.
  • Contributes to the development or revision of administrative directives as required.
  • Supports the operating budget and year-end processes as required.
  • Strives to continually enhance the quality and delivery of services through efficiencies and innovation.
  • Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County\'s policies and administrative directives.
  • Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Requirements:

What you need to succeed

Must-have

A professional accounting designation (Chartered Professional Accountant) and five (5) years of experience in finance, demonstrating increased complexity and responsibility.

Nice to have

Familiarity with municipal asset management, operations and knowledge of rural communities is an asset.

We offer a competitive annual salary of between $84,889 - $106,111, municipal pension plan, three-weeks vacation allocation, and an employer-paid comprehensive benefits package.

The opportunity is permanent full-time and is 35 hours per week scheduled Monday to Friday, with some extended hours to meet operational requirements. The office is located at 101-1101 5 St. Nisku, AB.
