Pay rate: $80,000 - $95,000/year

Location: Nanaimo, BC

Shifts: 8:00am - 4:30pm | Monday to Friday

Duties and Responsibilities:

o Company Core Duties

  • Ensure that work is conducted in a safe manner. Report unsafe practices.
  • Ensure that security practices are in place and consistent. Report security concerns.
  • Ensure that company values and policies are understood and adhered to.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of company-wide and department objectives.
  • Engage in all company-wide continuous improvement initiatives: quality management system, lean manufacturing, and ISO 9001 compliance.
o PLANNING & FORECASTING
  • Maintain operating, capital and cash flow budgeting and forecasting for group of companies
  • Lead the annual budget preparation and quarterly forecasting processes in close partnership with key stakeholders, department managers (P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow) including running various scenarios as required to evaluate the overall impact on earnings, liquidity, and covenants.
  • Assist senior management and Board of Directors with annual planning and activities necessary to meet deliverables.
o REPORTING & ANALYSIS
  • Develop, implement and manage management reporting tools (ie segmented reporting, value stream, management reporting, project reporting etc)

  • Analyze and provide financial information to support department managers in understanding financial results
  • Communicate with other departments to disseminate information and to plan for financial reporting activities
  • Identify new analytics and metrics to assess financial and operational performance; provide recommendations and financial perspective to operations
  • Develop and maintain Project Reporting for ongoing research and development activities, SRED projects and other operational projects as required.
  • Prepare financial components of business case preparation and analyses for new products, new business lines or others as required
  • Prepare financial reporting to management and the board (financial statements, variance analysis performance reports and MD&A), for the organization, including collecting, validating and organizing information, in order to accurately assess and report on operating activities, results and compliance with covenants for external stakeholders
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly and yearly financial internal and external reporting in a multi-currency environment for parent co of VMAC and its subsidiary
  • Evaluate and analyze issues as they arise and identify solutions and options for resolution
  • Produce regular reports for banks and other regulatory bodies as required
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis and reporting as required
o FINANCIAL SYSTEMS PROCESS OPTIMIZATION
  • Optimize use of reporting software to improve report production and rapid flexibility for scenario analyses
  • Develop a good understanding of the manufacturing costing and inventory management systems and methodology and suggest improvements for completeness and accuracy
  • Assist in testing changes to the financial database, including analysis of data integrity
  • Assist in problem solving inter-departmental process issues in ERP
  • Conduct business process analyses to standardize and improve ERP utilization
o SUPERVISORY
  • Assist, direct and provide ongoing review, feedback, and training to pother members of finance team or coworkers throughout the business
  • Perform primary and secondary reviews of others\' work
  • Ensure team\'s SOPs are up-to-date and in compliance
  • Act as a backup for other finance team functions and perform other duties as assigned
o RISK MANAGEMENT
  • Support the design and implementation of risk management/reporting tools
  • Contribute to risk identification, analysis, trending, reporting and reduction
o CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
  • Lead team in Lean initiatives
  • Evaluate, recommend, and Implement business processes that are consistent and appropriate to meet the business and reporting requirements of the company
  • Independently research information, recommend best practices and develop policies and procedures
Qualifications:

A designated CPA (CA/CGA/CMA) or CPA Student with 5 plus years of proven accounting experience in the manufacturing/or construction industry

A minimum of 3 years\' experience in a public accounting firm

An in-depth knowledge of ASPE accounting standards

Advanced Excel skills (eg. macros, pivot tables, vlookups and hlookups)

Advanced data analytic skills (eg. Tableau, PowerBI, PowerQuery)

Advanced experience working with and fully understanding the integration of an ERP system.

Experience setting up and maintaining third party financial reporting files

Experience working in a multi-currency, multi company environment

The ability to work overtime as necessary.
