About the Position:

This is a temporary, full time support staff position replacing a bargaining unit employee. This position will start as soon as possible and end in March 2024. Working 35 hours per week at an hourly rate of $42.38/HR, reporting to the Manager, Financial Services.

The successful candidate will provide complex financial reporting and analysis throughout the fiscal year to support management financial reporting to various stakeholders and assist management and director in decision making. You will be responsible for assembling and analyzing financial data using varied approaches in overseeing financial analyst with reconciling balance sheet accounts, month-end. Assists Manager, Financial Services in compiling complex year-end audit working papers. Compile the year-end financial statements and assist in variance analysis. Complete analysis for external reports for manager review.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Compile and compute complex financial data with a high level of account analysis in conjunction with financial interpretation of funding contracts/agreements to prepare financial statements/reports in accordance with financial legislation and contractual obligations;
  • Gives financial direction to the appropriate staff and management to ensure project funding, reporting and other financial issues are properly carried out according to the terms of the contracts/agreements;
  • Reviews various financial statements compiled by the Financial Analyst for specific funding reports; conducts variance analysis, investigates anomalies and takes the necessary corrective action;
  • Develops various comprehensive financial statements and variance analysis as requested by the management;
  • Assists with direction and instruction to the accounting staff on accounting transactions, general ledger postings, and quarter end, year end processes to ensure data accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting;
  • Generates complex financial audit working papers for many and various financial reports specifically including the annual College Financial Statements and the Lambton College Foundation Financial Statements;
  • Provides expertise for the financial analyst, for the general accounting staff, College managers and other end users to research, correct or explain accounting transactions in the general ledger
  • Responsible for the integrity and security of general ledger financial posting by controlling end-user data access to the general ledger mainframe and communicating with the IT department for certain end-user access;
  • Provides oversight to College management, financial analyst and account holders of various restricted accounts including the Lambton College Foundation and Scholarship & Bursary accounts to ensure financial activities are properly carried out according to the terms and conditions of the various restricted funds and assign the appropriate corrective action;
  • Reviews interim financial reports prepared by financial analyst, analyzes the data and variances for management of various financial statements and reports (Lambton College Foundation, Financial Aid Scholarship & Bursary reports, other restricted accounts such as SAC and Enactus)
  • Reviews the documents prepared by the financial analyst for scholarship and bursary T4A issuance to students and remittance to Canada Revenue Agency prior to approval of Manager, Financial Services
  • Oversees the preparation by the financial analyst of the Charity tax returns of Lambton College and Lambton College Foundation for the review by the Manager, Financial Services;
Qualifications:
  • Four-year Business Admin degree with concentration in Accounting
  • CPA Designation
  • 5 years of practical experience with financial reports and statement working paper preparation.
  • 5 years of progressive experience working in a computerized accounting system and with other analytical and reporting tools ideally with a non-profit medium sized institution.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
