6 month term contract

with the possibility of extension.

As a Seed Orchard Worker, you'll play a vital role in tree care, pollination, and seed collection, gaining valuable experience while working in a dynamic, outdoor environment. Maintain Tree Health:

Perform essential tree care activities, including pruning, planting, mowing, and weed trimming, to ensure orchard vitality.

Support Controlled Pollination

: Assist in the breeding program by conducting controlled mass pollination to enhance tree genetics.

Cone Collection:

Gather cones from selected trees to ensure high-quality seed production for future forestry projects.

Work at Heights:

Climb and work in elevated positions (up to 80 ft) while following all safety protocols (onsite training provided)

General Orchard Operations:

Support a variety of outdoor activities that contribute to the smooth and efficient functioning of the orchard. During the winter season, responsibilities will include operating seed extraction equipment and working with various machinery such as kilns and tumblers.

Winter Responsibilities



Cone Processing

: +

Kiln Drying

: Cones are dried to open them and release seeds.

Tumbling

: Mechanical tumblers help dislodge seeds.
+

Scalping & Dewinging

: Seeds are separated from cone debris and their wings are removed using air and water.

Seed Processing

: +

Screening & Sizing

: Seeds are sorted by size and weight.

Liquid Rinsing & Sanitizing

: Ensures cleanliness and reduces mold risk.
+

Final Kilning & Surface Drying

: Prepares seeds for storage.

Inventory & Storage

: + Seeds are weighed, labeled, and stored in cold conditions.
+ Stratification and germination testing are performed to ensure viability.


Education:

Minimum of a high school diploma; enrollment in or completion of a forestry program is a plus.

Experience:

No prior experience required, but experience in outdoor labor, tree care, or forestry is preferred.

Skills & Traits:

Strong work ethic, reliability, ability to work outdoors in various conditions, and comfort working at heights. Possible lifting of up to 50lbs.

Certifications:

No certifications required, but a Class 5 driver's license is preferred. Must have reliable transportation.
