Position Overview
As a Security Systems Technician, you will play a critical role in deploying and maintaining physical security systems such as access control, video surveillance (CCTV), and alarm systems for commercial, government, and multi-tenant properties. You will work hands-on at client sites, coordinating installations, supporting IT integrations, and ensuring secure and scalable deployments in collaboration with our IT engineering and project teams.
Key Responsibilities Installation & Deployment
Install and configure access control systems (card/fob readers, door strikes, biometric units)
Set up, mount, and configure CCTV systems (IP cameras, NVRs, VMS platforms)
Deploy intrusion detection and alarm systems; wire, test, and program devices
Terminate and test structured cabling for all physical security devices
Install racks, patch panels, and power supplies for system infrastructure
System Integration & Support
Integrate physical security devices with network infrastructure (e.g., VLAN, PoE, switches)
Collaborate with IT teams to align surveillance storage, access logs, and alerting into centralized systems (where applicable)
Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and upgrades of existing security installations
Assist in remote access configurations for video monitoring and alarm notifications
Site Surveys & Documentation
Conduct site assessments and security walk-throughs for new projects
Create and maintain accurate documentation for installed systems (wiring diagrams, camera layouts, system configs)
Identify and report security risks and mitigation recommendations to clients and internal teams
Project & Client Coordination
Work with project managers, sales engineers, and IT consultants to scope and schedule installations
Maintain professional communication with clients during deployments and maintenance work
Provide training and walkthroughs to end-users post-installation
Requirements Technical Qualifications
3+ years experience in physical security installations (access control, CCTV, alarms)
Proficient in low-voltage cabling, wiring standards, and basic networking
Familiarity with systems like Hikvision, Verkada, Avigilon, Axis, Honeywell, DSC, Kantech, Genetec, etc.
Experience with PoE switches, NVRs, VLAN tagging, and remote access tools
Certifications (Assets)
Manufacturer certifications in access control or surveillance systems
Security Systems Technician Certification or Alarm Systems Training
Valid Ontario Security Systems Installer license (or in process)
Other Requirements
Valid G-class driver's license and clean driving record
Must pass criminal background check (due to work in secure environments)
Comfortable working on ladders, in ceilings, and with power tools
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in physically demanding environments
Work Conditions
Full-time, Monday to Friday (8am-5pm), with flexibility for occasional after-hours work
Based in Ottawa with regular local travel to client sites
Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement provided for travel
