Opening Date: May 15th, 2023 Closing Date: May 31st 2023 Position Description: Security Investigator Role Description: Security Investigators report to the Assistant Director of Regulatory. They are responsible for ensuring safety and security on racetrack grounds. They ensure that everyone is acting in a lawful and orderly manner. They also perform surveillance activities and drug test personnel as required. About Horse Racing Alberta HRA is a not-for-profit corporation governed by individuals who represent various racetrack and breeding organizations and the public. HRA licenses horse racetracks in Alberta and administers the rules that guide the conduct of officials, owners, trainers, drivers, and jockeys during horsing events. The mandate of Horse Racing Alberta (HRA) is defined by the Horse Racing Alberta Act, and states that HRA will: \xc2\xb7 Govern, direct, control, regulate, manage, market, and promote horse racing in any or all of its forms; and \xc2\xb7 Protect the health, safety, and welfare of racehorses and, with respects to horse racing, the safety and welfare of racing participants and racing officials; and \xc2\xb7 Safeguard the interests of the general public in horse racing. HRA core business strives to stabilize, enhance, and ensure the growth and integrity of the Alberta horse racing and breeding industry in Alberta. Key Responsibilities \xc2\xb7 Walk the barn area several times a day, looking for any activities that are against the rules of Horse Racing Alberta and the local racetrack or opposing the best interests of horse racing. \xc2\xb7 Perform barn searches. \xc2\xb7 Be attentive to all complaints and concerns of horsemen and horsewomen. \xc2\xb7 Be aware of current stabling arrangements. \xc2\xb7 Conduct surveillance of the paddock and test barn area during race days. \xc2\xb7 You will need to be in constant communication with racetrack operation security. \xc2\xb7 Look at all license applications and perform necessary checks whererequired. \xc2\xb7 Ensure all personnel entering the restricted areas of the racetrack have a current HRA license or have been signed in by an HRA licensee. \xc2\xb7 Drug test all jockeys, valets, and gate crew before starting a new race season. Perform random drug testing on the former licensees throughout race meets. \xc2\xb7 Perform random drug/alcohol testing on all racing participants on a monthly basis. \xc2\xb7 Perform drug/alcohol tests based on cause. \xc2\xb7 Enter all drug/alcohol test data into computers. \xc2\xb7 Order all necessary supplies for drug/alcohol testing. \xc2\xb7 Deliver all samples to the lab and follow up on results. \xc2\xb7 Oversee all aspects of breathalyzer testing. \xc2\xb7 Keep a log on daily activities and report to Supervisor of Security and Investigations. \xc2\xb7 Write a monthly report about your daily activities to the Supervisor of Security and Investigations. \xc2\xb7 Send all drug testing documentation to the Supervisor of Security and Investigations. Education, Skills and Experience \xc2\xb7 High School Diploma \xc2\xb7 A Diploma in Investigative Studies or similar is an asset. \xc2\xb7 Valid First Aid, with CPR and AED or equivalent, is anasset. \xc2\xb7 Experience in investigative work such as a security guard, police officer, or private investigator. \xc2\xb7 Experience working in the Equine industry such as a racetrack. \xc2\xb7 Experience working with horses is an asset. \xc2\xb7 Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. \xc2\xb7 Good time management, multitasking and organizational skills. \xc2\xb7 Ability to proactively handle emergency and high-stress situations \xc2\xb7 Ability to anticipate, identify, and solve problems \xc2\xb7 Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. \xc2\xb7 Ability to work shift work, including daytime, evenings, weekends, and holidays. \xc2\xb7 Ability to pass a criminal background check \xc2\xb7 Eligible to work in Canada Remuneration \xc2\xb7 A competitive salary and comprehensive benefit program are offered.
