Job Description


The Edmonton Police Service has an opportunity for one (1) Security Clearance Processing Clerk. The position is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of background screenings. Workload priority is assessed by organizational needs while maintaining standards to mitigate risk to EPS facilities, employees, and the community. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Review, discern and analyze information retrieved from various computer sources and law enforcement related data bases (i.e. CPIC, PIP, EPROS, ACIIS, JOIN, ROADS)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Code, interpreting CPIC results and Edmonton Police Service (EPS) ESC policy and procedure is essential.
  • Recognize and identify discrepancies, omissions or detrimental information.
  • Organize all supporting documentation and assemble information packages.
  • Provide relief and overlap to other administrative functions within the RSS office.
  • Ensure all tracking sheets are concluded in the system in a timely manner.
  • Attend meetings
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade including business subjects related to word and information processing or completion of an appropriate certificate program from an approved business school/college.
  • A minimum of three (3) yearxe2x80x99s diversified word and information processing experience.
  • Knowledge of AACP standards for hiring police officers in Alberta and working knowledge of APATS
  • Knowledge of principles of police investigation, methods and procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of EPS programs such as EPROS, NicheUA and I/Netviewer.
  • Advanced knowledge of external partner computer programs including but not restricted to CPIC, ACIIS, Police Information Portal (PIP), Alberta Justice (JOIN & ORCA), Alberta Registries, and ROADS.
  • Experience in social media and internet searches.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Code, Traffic Safety Act, Controlled Drug and Substances Act, Youth Justice Act, Criminal Records Act and other relevant Municipal, Provincial and Federal laws pertinent to background investigations.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with Powerpoint would be an asset.
  • Must have good interpersonal communication skills and be able to multitask and provide courteous and professional work.
  • Must have excellent time management and organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work with standard office software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and the ability to multitask.
  • Applicants may be tested.
  • As part of your pre-hire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, 0800 xe2x80x93 1600 hours Monday xe2x80x93 Friday.Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 012, $28.644 - $35.917 (Hourly), $1,933.50 - $2,424.40 (Bi-Weekly), $50.463.57 - $63,276.77 (Annually).
