About the RoleProvides secretarial support to the Director, International Studies, the Graduate and Undergraduate Program Chairs, and other department faculty, and the Manager, Academic and Administrative Services. Responds to requests for information from graduate students and faculty on program requirements, university regulations, financial aid, scholarships, bursaries and fellowships, fees and deadlines. Provides secretarial and administrative support to a variety of committees including: Department Tenure and Promotion, Nominating, and Appointments/Search, as well as ad hoc committees that may be struck. Word processes various materials and maintains and updates databases and spreadsheets. Maintains all faculty and instructor administration files and prepares all paperwork related to faculty appointments, promotion, tenure and salary review.QualificationsHigh school graduation and one year of post-secondary education or formal program equivalent, including training in word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications, and in secretarial practices. 3 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.
60 wpm keyboarding skill with high degree of accuracy.
Ability to use word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications (e.g., Word, Filemaker Pro, Excel) at an intermediate level.
Ability to use calendar, web publishing and web browser applications (e.g., SFU Connect, Adobe CQ, Explorer) at an intermediate level.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Excellent knowledge of university policies and procedures.
Excellent proof reading and editing skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to take and transcribe minutes of meetings with a high degree of accuracy.
