About the Opportunity

With little supervision, the Secretary undertakes a multitude of secretarial support duties requiring initiative, judgment, and accuracy, attention to detail, organization, speed and knowledge. This individual provides support to the managers within Population Oncology portfolio of the Nova Scotia Health Cancer Care Program.

The incumbent understands the portfolio area representing the \'face\' & culture of the organization and performs various administrative, leadership and coordination duties to meet program needs. This includes, but is not limited to meeting coordination, typing, photocopying, collating and distribution of reports and other correspondence. This individual exercises good judgment, people-skills and complex problem solving abilities in dealing with inquiries (phone, e-mail, mail, etc.) and visitors to the Nova Scotia Cancer Care Program.

This position requires a quick learner who is both highly experienced and readily adaptable to new and changing job requirements. Additionally, the successful applicant must possess strong organizational, prioritization, and interpersonal skills. They must also demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade Xll
  • Graduate of an accredited Office Administration program plus a minimum of one year related experience, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledgeable in office etiquette and office management/functioning
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, a high degree of tact, judgment and confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and time management skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task efficiently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products with proven ability in spread sheet applications (Word, Excel,
  • PowerPoint, Access)
  • A comfort with technology such as webinar platforms, electronic meeting scheduling, teleconference, etc.
  • Medical terminology is an asset
  • Keyboarding at 60 wpm, minimum
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Strong initiative to anticipate program needs
  • Demonstrated initiative to work as a part of a team, take initiative and assume additional responsibility when required.
  • Ability to function in a rapid-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others
  • Good conflict management skills
  • Some flexibility in hours of work
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives

$20.25 - $22.50 Hourly
