The Mahogany Homeowners Association is seeking a Landscaping Supervisor to oversee and contribute to the enhancement and maintenance of the Mahogany community's outdoor spaces under the Enhanced Landscape Maintenance Program.
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, this role is responsible for leading and working alongside the landscaping team to ensure high-quality grounds maintenance, strict adherence to safety protocols, and the effective execution of seasonal and special landscaping projects.
The ideal candidate is a skilled and experienced landscape professional with strong leadership abilities, a commitment to safety and environmental sustainability, and the expertise to manage both routine maintenance and larger-scale landscaping initiatives. This position requires hands-on involvement, team coordination, and a proactive approach to preserving and enhancing the beauty and functionality of the community's green spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
Supervise and work alongside the landscaping team to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard. Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all safety practices and procedures are strictly followed by all team members. Conduct safety briefings and enforce compliance with workplace safety regulations.
Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance:
Oversee and participate in mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, pruning of trees and shrubs, and maintaining tree wells, medians, and boulevards within the Mahogany community.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Operate and oversee the maintenance of landscaping equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, irrigation systems, and blowers. Conduct routine inspections and minor repairs.
Work Logging & Reporting:
Accurately log all work performed, ensuring detailed documentation. Provide weekly progress updates to the Facilities Manager.
Client & Community Interaction:
Maintain positive relationships with facility users, community members, and clients by addressing inquiries and concerns professionally.
Special Projects:
Assist with and oversee special landscaping projects, including rehabilitation projects, xeriscaping, and environmentally sustainable landscape improvements.
Lake & Water Management:
Assist with lake water testing and water quality management procedures as required.
Preventative Maintenance & Inventory Management:
Conduct maintenance checks on emergency fire equipment. Complete inventory counts and compile supply orders for approval.
Seasonal Duties:
Support the park maintenance crew when required, assisting with seasonal maintenance tasks such as snow removal, sand raking, and general upkeep of park grounds.
Compliance & Workplace Conduct:
Act in accordance with federal and provincial legislation, as well as corporate and departmental policies and procedures, ensuring a respectful and safe workplace.
Requirements:
Experience:
Minimum
3-5 years
in landscaping or grounds maintenance, with
at least 1 year
in a supervisory role.
Certifications (Preferred):
Horticultural certifications,
ISA Certified Arborist
, or
Pesticide Applicator License.
Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with
horticulture including species selection and installation, irrigation systems, and landscape design principles.
Equipment Proficiency:
Experience with operating and maintaining various landscaping machinery and tools.
Leadership Skills:
Strong ability to
supervise a team, delegate tasks, and ensure efficiency in daily operations.
Communication Skills:
Ability to
effectively lead a team, provide clear instructions, and interact with clients and stakeholders.
Attention to Detail:
Strong focus on
accurate record-keeping and task tracking.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to
50 lbs, stand, bend, stoop, and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
Work Hours:
Typically,
8 hours per day, Monday - Friday,
with some
weekend and evening shifts as required.
Outdoor Work:
Position involves working in
various weather conditions (summer/winter).
Physical Labor:
Requires ability to
lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials.
Equipment & Vehicle Use:
Required to operate assigned equipment and company vehicles.
