Typical hours for this position will be Monday to Friday between 8:00am-5:00pm, with possibility of evening or weekend shifts for Town of Devon events. This position requires the ability to work a maximum of 40 hours per week, with modified hours prior to camps starting.
Schedule details:
For the month of May and June you will be working out of the Town Office doing training, skill development, and planning for the camps (35 hours per week in May & June). July and August hours will be spent running the day camps (40 hours per week), with wrap-up weeks from August 17-28 being 35 hours per week. This position will run a kid's activity for the following events: Pride by the River (May 30 or June 13), Devon Days Kick Off BBQ (June 3) and Canada Day (July 1), and will run our Leaders in Training program on an evening or weekend.

Town of Devon Position Description
Title of Position:
Day Camp Programmer
The Day Camp Programmer plans, organizes, implements, and supervises summer day camp programs that provide learning and recreational opportunities for children and early youth in Devon. This position provides a leadership role to the Day Camp Facilitator(s) and volunteers, as well as capacity building opportunities through collaboration with supervisor and other town staff.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibility 1: Organization of Day Camps
Create a detailed plan for all day camps that are developmentally and age appropriate
Assist with processing registrations
Purchase and organize all supplies needed to run camps
Plan and book all field trips
Ensure all camp expenses are accounted for and submitted to supervisor in a timely matter
Responsibility 2: Implementation of Day Camps
Ensure organization and readiness of camps daily
Ensure children's safety while attending the programs
Provide support to program participants during challenging moments
Interact with parents/guardians of participants and answer questions
Supervise and ensure safety of participants on field trips
Provide an engaging camp environment where the children feel a sense of belonging and are able to participate in themed activities no matter their ability.
Responsibility 3: Volunteer Coordination
Connect with local schools and youth groups to recruit youth for the leaders in training program
Plan & Implement Leaders in Training program to train and get to know youth volunteers
Evaluate volunteers throughout and at the end of the summer
Plan a volunteer recognition for the end of the summer and complete reference letters as needed
Responsibility 4: Health and Safety Protocols
Identify potential safety concerns of all camp programs
Implement safe work procedures
Fill out proper forms when needed (i.e. incident forms)
Ensure First Aid kit is stocked with appropriate and current items
Follow all current Government of Alberta health protocols
Responsibility 5: Evaluation of programs
Evaluate all summer programs identifying areas of success and areas for improvement
Make recommendations for the following year
Responsibility 6:
Obtain Career Related Experience
Assist in the day-to-day mentoring and evaluation of day camp staff
Check in with supervisor once per week to discuss successes of the week, areas for improvement, areas that support is needed
Implement decision making and problem-solving skills when taking a lead role within the camps
Establish leadership skills by working with and evaluating volunteers and day camp staff
Assist with Town of Devon event activities, specific to children and youth
Qualifications
Education:
Grade 12 Diploma
Completion or enrolment in post-secondary education in an applicable degree program (i.e. Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Education, Early Childhood)
Standard First Aid, and CPR level C
Training in High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development will be seen as an asset
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience working with children and developing children's programming
At least 1 year of event support experience
Experience in program development, communication, and problem-solving
Strong time management and priority-setting skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Satisfactory Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Persons Check required
Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a driver's abstract upon request
