Screen Writer / Script Writer

Reports To: Creative Manager

Overview:

As a Screenplay Writer, you should have a passion for storytelling and a background in film, TV, or video production. You should write well and innovatively, express your ideas effectively in screenplay-form. You might work on an original piece or an adaptation of an existing story.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and research ideas for original screenplays.
• Write or adapt a story into a script.
• Writing dialogue for features, commercial ads and other forms of media.
• Weave together visual elements in scenes with plot and dialogue.
• Developing a script from start to finish by working with producers.
• Writing scripts that adhere to industry standards regarding format and style to ensure that they can be filmed effectively.
• Interviewing key personnel or subject matter experts

Requirements:

• BA/BS in Literature, Creating Writing, Screenwriting, Film Studies, or applicable equivalent experience preferred.
• A relevant portfolio is required (2-3 writing samples that showcase your strongest work, and a longer/screenplay sample with ~10 pages or less).
• Any applications without samples will not be considered.
• Proven experience crafting and developing stories, writing dialogue and various other content from concept to completion.
• Experience with a non-linear narrative structure is preferred.
• Strong copy-editing skills are essential.
• Knowledge and familiarity with video, cameras and editing software is an asset.
