The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking an outstanding early to mid-career Scientist with expertise in diverse aspects of sexuality and sexual behaviour including problematic sexual behaviour, paraphilias and sexual offending. This position offers a competitive salary and the potential for start-up funding. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in building a research program within the Sexual Behaviours Clinic in the Forensic Division at CAMH. The Sexual Behaviours Clinic is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team including social work, psychology, and psychiatry. The clinic provides services that include assessment, individual and group counseling, family counseling, consultation to other agencies and professionals, pharmacological assessment and treatment related to sex drive reduction. Treatment approach follows a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model, with aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and the Good Lives Model, which creates a platform for ground-breaking research to further the mandate of the clinic in assessing treatment outcomes.


The incumbent will work in a collaborative inter-disciplinary clinical research environment. As a Scientist, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and carry out and maintain an independent program of research, and lead all aspects of research projects. They will secure, maintain and manage competitive extramural funding sources for those activities, and generate high-impact research outputs, including an active publication record. They will also disseminate research results through presentations at academic meetings and conferences and communicate ideas to key decision makers. Participation in leadership advisory groups at CAMH and externally is expected. The successful candidate will be required to establish local, national, and international collaborations, and provide practical supervision of undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate trainees as well as technical staff. The Scientist will have their primary reporting in the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research, with matrix reporting to the Chiefs of the Forensic and Psychology Divisions


CAMH is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and the successful applicant will need to obtain academic affiliation with a university department at the Assistant Professor level or above.

Job Requirements


The successful applicant is required to have a Ph.D. in a relevant Health Sciences related discipline and at minimum 3 years of post-doctoral experience as evidenced by conference proceedings and peer-reviewed publications. Experience will encompass research related to the field of sexology and may include sexual offending, the prevention of sexual abuse, penile plethysmography, evaluation of treatment programs, genetics, endocrinology, and other related subjects. An excellent publication record and proven aptitude in writing first authored peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals is required. The candidate must have demonstrated success in obtaining externally funded competitive grants. They must have a demonstrated ability in the design, management and execution of high quality research projects. The successful candidate will also possess sound judgment, excellent organizational, communication (verbal/written) and strong analytical skills. The demonstrated ability to cultivate internal and external relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues, decision makers and the scientific community is required. The Scientist must be able to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team. The capacity to work with individuals of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is required. Bilingualism (English/French) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
