Your Opportunity:

The Scientist – Primary Health Care - is a key scientific leadership role within Applied Research & Evaluation Services (ARES). This position reports to the Director, Health Services Research and Innovation within ARES. This position is responsible and accountable for leading and providing direction for applied research initiatives in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Primary Health Care (PHC). The Scientist is a contributor of scientific methods, major ideas and innovations that advance the evidence-informed decision making goals of AHS. The Scientist provides expert scientific counsel to Directors, Senior, Provincial and Executive Directors, Senior Program Officers, Senior Medical Directors, Research Associates, and Senior Analysts as well as Health Services Planners, Senior Leads and Managers, and Senior Advisors in Primary Health Care, Zones, Strategic Clinical Networks and with our external partners (e.g., AH, PCNs, AMA, HQCA, universities), on all aspects related to scientific principles, frameworks, concepts, approaches, methods, analytics, and metrics that inform evidence-based decision making.

Description:

Experience, knowledge and training in epidemiology and/or health services research within acute, primary and/or community care environments. Requires minimum 5 years’ experience developing and applying research methods to complex health care issues; independently coordinating large projects, including proposal/plan preparations, project coordination and management, and excellent ability in writing and editing scientific manuscripts. Strong leadership skills and management skills to leads projects and people. Ability to work collaboratively in an environment characterized by ambiguity, shifting timelines and priorities, and multiple projects underway simultaneously. Demonstrated excellent skills in oral and written communication. Demonstrated excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to meet project deadlines. Skilled in critical thinking, facilitation, collaboration, negotiation and problem-solving.

Required Qualifications: A Doctorate degree (PhD) in health services research or epidemiology. A minimum of 3 years experience undertaking research in a health related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience conducting complex studies in the health care environment. Experience collaborating with primary health care and AHS partners to improve our health system.

Preferred Qualifications:
Content expertise in primary care. Understanding of how planning, implementation science, and applied research can work together to advance work. Motivated to bring diverse ways of knowing into study design and day to day work to ensure patient/family centered care. Interest in capacity building and working with students. Adjunct status (or ability to obtain) with a university.
