Position Description:

Based in the Child, Youth and Emerging Adult Program, the donor funded McCain Centre is focused on enhancing and improving the design, delivery and effectiveness of mental health and addictions care systems, services and policies for children and youth aged 6-24. The McCain Centre combines evidence-based and innovative research techniques to ensure strong clinical utility and relevance in their initiatives. Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO, ) is a network of 22, integrated service hubs where young people ages 12 to 25 years have walk-in access to youth-centred, community based mental health and wellness services informed by youth, family members and service providers. This initiative engages youth, family members and other stakeholders through a co-creation process, ensuring services are designed and delivered according to their needs.

The McCain Centre and YWHO are seeking a full-time, Scientific Associate for a one year contract to take a key role supporting a Health Canada funded project which will optimize mental health for youth across Canada by developing a secure, state-of-the-art Integrated Youth Services (IYS) data platform and IYS data federation in two provinces, Ontario (i.e., YWHO) and British Columbia (i.e., Foundry). This initiative will be the cornerstone to creating the first pan-Canadian IYS Learning Health System (LHS) integrating the efforts of youth MH researchers, service providers, youth, family members and system decision-makers/policymakers towards the common goal of improving mental health and substance use outcomes for youth and their families. This project will set the stage for growth as emerging provincial and territorial IYS begin to standardize service-related data collection.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, and together with youth researchers, service providers, youth, family members and system decision-makers/policymakers, the Scientific Associate will play a key role in supporting implementation of the following activities:

  • Review existing IYS frameworks and indicators for individual, service, organization, and system level findings, and perform a gap analysis using systematic approaches (e.g. scoping review, Delphi, deliberative dialogue)
  • Engage pan-Canadian stakeholders to establish guiding principles for a governance framework that will emphasize equity-centred, youth governance
  • Engage pan-Canadian stakeholders about the core data elements, types, and requirements for standardize data collection in IYS settings
  • Review existing legal, ethical, privacy and security requirements and policies as they relate to mental health and substance use service data within IYS settings
  • Support the development of training materials, data standards, and policy documents
  • Other responsibilities include supporting the scientific team in creating, managing and monitoring detailed project work plans; supervising research staff; guiding the preparation of progress reports to the project funder; working with project consultants; and preparing presentations, manuscripts, and project reports.
  • Opportunities for publishing research articles, grant writing mentorship, and academic and non-academic presentations will be offered
The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of inclusive environments and will support and implement anti-oppressive and anti-racist best practices in the workplace. Understanding of and appreciation of systemic and personal privilege related to diversity, with ability to work with stakeholders of diverse identities and ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be a strong asset. This position is located at CAMH, 80 Workman Way, Toronto .

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, or related health research or sciences discipline. The applicant must have previous experience in diverse stakeholder engagement, youth mental health and substance use evaluation and research, and quantitative and mixed methods mental health research. Experiencing working with diverse stakeholder groups such as youth and families is required. Applicants must have a proven track record of research project development, and execution, as well as peer reviewed publications. Experience with data privacy, data management, and ethical guidelines to data use and ownership (e.g., Ownership, Control Access and Possession OCAP\xc2\xae Principles) is an asset.

The successful applicant will have experience working with interdisciplinary teams and managing complex projects. Superior interpersonal and organizational skills along with analytical and problem solving skills are required. The successful applicant will be a self-starter able to manage multiple projects with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail. Demonstrated superior communication skills, i.e., ability to explain complex issues in plain language both verbally and in writing in a prior work setting is required. The successful applicant must be able to lead and work effectively within an interdisciplinary team and interact comfortably with diverse community partners. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be a strong asset.

Please Note: This full-time, contract (12 months) position is NOT part of any bargaining unit.
