Job Description


The Institute for Mental Health Policy Research (IMHPR) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is currently seeking a full-time, contract (1 year) Scientific Associate. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, and working in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team including scientists, researchers, research staff and clinicians, the Scientific Associate will develop and manage qualitative research projects focused on improving access to brief, evidence-based psychotherapies for depression, anxiety and trauma.This position will require the individual to apply advanced qualitative research skills in support of grant applications and studies led by Dr. Singla in areas including, but not limited to: qualitative research design; development and management of research projects; qualitative data collection; qualitative data management and analysis. The successful candidate will be expected to assist with study start-up (e.g., developing and submitting Research Ethics Board applications, writing study protocols and standard operating procedures), as well as participate in the preparation of research reports, grants, conference presentations, papers for publication, and other knowledge translation activities. The Scientific Associate will also contribute to mentorship of staff and research trainees as appropriate.The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in Sociology, Psychology, Health Systems or a related field with 1 or more years of post-doctoral or post-graduate experience

  • Proven track record of managing qualitative research projects, preferably in mental health research
  • Demonstrated professional experience and training in qualitative research methodologies
  • Expertise in qualitative data analysis and interpretation
  • Demonstrated proficiency with qualitative statistical software (i.e., NVivo) is required
  • Extensive experience with scientific writing, with a proven track record and aptitude in scientific publishing
  • Superior interpersonal skills along with analytical and problem solving skills are required.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills with a flexibility to adjust to priorities
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-directed with an ability to make decisions and to exercise good judgement
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
  • Strong organizational skills
