Sherwood Heights School is seeking a passionate and skilled Music Teacher to lead our junior and intermediate music program. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive music curriculum that includes classroom instruction, choir direction, recorder ensemble leadership, and band instruction, aligning with our commitment to fostering artistic expression and academic excellence.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement an engaging music curriculum that balances individual skill development and ensemble performance, in line with Sherwood Heights School's emphasis on a well-rounded education.
Conduct weekly choir rehearsals, preparing students for regular concerts and recitals that showcase their talents and foster a sense of achievement and community spirit.
Teach recorder to students in designated grades, enhancing their musical abilities and appreciation.
Lead the school band, introducing students to various instruments and ensemble playing, and organizing performances for school events.
Collaborate with faculty members to integrate music into the broader curriculum, supporting the school's philosophy of developing literacy, numeracy, and thinking skills.
Organize and direct musical performances for school concerts, special events, and competitions, reflecting the school's commitment to extracurricular activities that broaden students' horizons.
Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity, confidence, and self-discipline.
Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback to students and communicating effectively with parents.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Music or Music Education.
Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) certification or eligibility to teach in Ontario.
Proven experience teaching music to elementary and middle school-aged children, with proficiency in choir direction, recorder, and band instruments.
Strong classroom management skills and a nurturing approach to teaching.
Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
Commitment to extracurricular involvement, aligning with Sherwood Heights School's dedication to offering various daily school clubs and sports activities.
