As a Scheduler, you will ensure the effective and accurate real-time staffing requirements of fire apparatus and Calgary Fire Department (CFD) work sites for a 24/7 continuous operation, optimizing and maintaining adherence to service level requirements. Primary duties include:


  • Review and evaluate duty rosters on a daily and hourly basis, as information becomes available, to assess impact or unpredicted changes.

  • Create and initiate overtime call-out lists, adhering to standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining agreement.

  • Verify, cross-check and enter all exception time in the scheduling software system (TeleStaff) and ensure all data contained within the program is accurate.

  • Contact employees by e-mail, telephone and in person to coordinate schedules and arrange for coverage in all Fire Stations.

  • Maintain filing system of e-mails and written communication from staff, Deputy Chiefs and Battalion Chiefs as it pertains to requests for changes made in the scheduling software, which can include scheduling vacation, time off, shift substitutions, training and entry of overtime that has been submitted.





Qualifications
  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED) and at least 1 year of related work experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of computerized scheduling software systems (for example TeleStaff).
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • A level of familiarity and comfort working with contractual language, interpretation of this language, analytical ability to interpret statistics and make recommendations from the information gathered.
  • Applicants must possess the ability to work in a dynamically changing environment, with a strong background in administrative processes and procedures along with an ability to work without direct supervision.
  • The ability to deal effectively in conflict situations and to think creatively in order to resolve issues, while respecting the intent of contract or policy provisions is essential.

Days of Work: This position works daytime, evening
and weekend shifts.
