Key Responsibilities: o Content Mastery: Provide expert instruction on the core components of the AP / SAT / SSAT English Language curriculum, including: o Rhetorical analysis of nonfiction texts (essays, speeches, letters, visual arguments). o Writing and refining persuasive, argumentative, and synthesis essays. o Understanding and applying rhetorical strategies, devices, and modes of discourse. o Developing sophisticated thesis statements and organizing complex arguments. o Skill Development: Teach and reinforce close reading, critical thinking, and effective annotation strategies. o Essay Coaching: Provide detailed, constructive feedback on student essays, focusing on argument development, evidence integration, organization, and style (diction, syntax, tone). o Test Preparation: Familiarize students with the format, timing, and scoring rubrics of the AP exam. Administer and debrief practice exams and timed writings. o Individualized Learning: Assess each student's unique strengths and weaknesses to create customized learning plans and session goals. o Progress Communication: Maintain clear and professional communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for growth. Qualifications & Experience: o Required: A Bachelor/Master's degree in English, Education, Journalism, Communications, or a closely related field. o Strongly Preferred: o Previous experience teaching AP English Language and Composition at the high school level. o Experience as an AP Reader (scorer for the AP Exam) is a significant plus.
