Sanitation Team Leader Position

As a Sanitation Team Leader, you will oversee a dynamic sanitation team responsible for cleaning the bakery manufacturing plant using CFIA-approved chemicals and following regulatory guidelines. This position requires you to work the night shift for 10 hours over four days a week, providing a great opportunity for career growth and development.

Here's Who You Are



Previous experience leading a sanitation team in a food manufacturing setting; bakery experience is preferred. Comfortable working with sanitation chemicals and cleaning agents (WHMIS certified). Detail-oriented, able to work collaboratively with a team from diverse backgrounds. Proficient in English, both verbal and written. Knowledgeable about GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, OHS, and other quality and safety programs relevant to food processing environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:



This position entails hands-on cleaning, leadership duties, and enhancing sanitation processes throughout the facility. You must be capable of prioritizing and analyzing issues while assisting in decision-making regarding sanitation requirements and employee conduct. You will be responsible for training fellow associates in the relief position. Assist management in proactively identifying problems and suggesting solutions. Recognize and report any signs of equipment tampering. Maintain cleanliness; ensure that equipment and work areas are organized, clean, and sanitary during the shift. At the end of your shift, remove any waste and garbage produced. Ensure the proper care of equipment during cleaning. Adhere to all safety protocols and engage in safety training. Ensure the safe and efficient use of equipment, tools, and personnel while promptly reporting any injuries, accidents, or unsafe conditions to your supervisor. Support and comply with all quality management systems, continuous improvement initiatives, food safety standards, employee safety measures, and preventative maintenance programs. Ensure that all tasks performed by the sanitation team are executed safely, efficiently, and accurately. Monitor the preparation and use of cleaning chemicals. Facilitate the cleaning of equipment used in preparing, mixing, and finishing products, including but not limited to mixers, depositors, conveyors, and packaging. Conduct visual inspections of equipment for wear, tear, and cleanliness. Respond promptly with a sense of urgency while adhering to sanitation standards. Work in a safe, clean, and responsible manner. Follow all sanitation procedures and work instructions. Conduct daily inspections and record information as required in the Post Operations check sheet. Train employees on Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and assist the Food Safety Manager in designing these procedures. Enforce and monitor compliance with the company's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), SSOP, FIFO, and HACCP guidelines, ensuring corrective actions are taken as necessary. Participate in safety training and maintain the safe and efficient use of equipment, tools, and personnel. Report any injury or accident immediately. Foster positive employee relations, ensuring fair treatment and respect in all interactions with staff. Ensure the proper rotation of materials and cleaning chemicals (FIFO - first in, first out, or FEFO - first expiry, first out) and maintain accurate lot tracking. Promptly report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the sanitation supervisor. Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

Manual dexterity: The ability to use both hands and all fingers is essential. Movement: Employees frequently need to bend and stoop. Lifting: Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 kgs regularly and more than 25 kgs with assistance from a co-worker. Equipment handling: Employees are required to push/pull equipment, operate manual or automated pallet jacks, climb ladders, and utilize various tools. Neck and head movement*: Frequent flexing, extending, and turning of the neck and head are necessary.
