The Sanitation Lead - Evenings reports directly to the Sanitation Supervisor or designate and is responsible for leading and coordinating evening sanitation operations within the facility. This role ensures that all cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance tasks are executed efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with company standards and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). The Sanitation Lead provides day-to-day direction to the sanitation team, supports task delegation and compliance oversight, and ensures adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate the evening sanitation team to ensure all areas of the facility meet cGMP and company cleanliness standards. Adhere to and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for setup, process flow, and troubleshooting to ensure operational efficiency. Monitor and verify completion of all sanitation documentation with accuracy and attention to detail to maintain regulatory and operational compliance. Assist with attendance tracking and ensure adequate staffing levels for scheduled shifts. Support the delivery of training programs for new team members by coordinating with the Sanitation Supervisor and Training department. Learn, reinforce, and uphold all relevant Health and Safety expectations; consistently evaluate adherence to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. Manage team performance to ensure all sanitation and compliance requirements are met, providing feedback and support to maintain high standards. Issue and/or recommend disciplinary actions when necessary, in alignment with company policies. Perform and oversee general facility cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, waste removal, and restocking of washrooms and common areas. Participate in the cleaning and sanitization of production areas by following established SOPs. Ensure facility sanitation is performed in accordance with Good Production Practices (GPP) and cGMP requirements. Conduct routine inspections of work areas and equipment to verify compliance and identify areas for improvement. Notify the Sanitation Supervisor or designate of any major repair or maintenance needs. Conduct regular inventory checks of cleaning supplies and ensure proper storage, handling, and ordering of materials. Ensure sanitation team members are properly trained and authorized to operate equipment such as pressure washers, floor scrubbers, forklifts, and scissor lifts, in a safe and compliant manner. Participate in the development and continuous improvement of SOPs related to sanitation and cleaning. Maintain documentation of work performed for Health Canada compliance and internal quality audits. Work collaboratively with other departments, including Production, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance, to support operational efficiency. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in accordance with health and safety policies. Execute additional duties as assigned, ensuring alignment with operational and organizational goals.

Qualifications

Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English. Minimum of 2 years of experience in sanitation, custodial, or production environments, preferably in the cannabis, food, or pharmaceutical industry. Previous leadership or team lead experience is strongly preferred. Knowledge of Good Production Practices (GPP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) standards is required. Ability to interpret and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to motivate, guide, and support team members in a fast-paced environment. Capable of operating industrial cleaning and material-handling equipment safely. Physical ability to stand, lift, bend, and move materials for extended periods (up to 50 lbs). Previous experience working within a greenhouse or production facility is preferred. Safety boots are required. Successful candidates will be required to provide a general police clearance. Reliable transportation is required (no public transit available).

Working Conditions

May be exposed to cleaning chemicals, wet floors, and varying temperatures. Requires wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Evening shift; weekend or overtime work may be required based on operational needs. Moderate physical demands including standing, lifting, and repetitive motions. Exposure to wet areas, greenhouse conditions, and cold weather environments.
