PMC Labs is seeking a detail?oriented Sample Preparation Technician to support mining sample workflows and day-to-day warehouse operations. The role combines hands-on sample preparation for mining materials with light warehouse duties, forklift operation, and routine maintenance tasks to ensure smooth lab and storage operations.
Duties
Sample preparation for mining materials, including:
Crushing and pulverizing samples to specified mesh sizes
Riffling and splitting samples to create representative portions
Wet screening and dry screening to achieve target particle distributions
Maintain accurate chain-of-custody and sample logs; log all prep steps in the LIMS or designated tracking system
Warehouse duties:
Receive, store, and organize lab supplies, reagents, and consumables
Pick, pack, and ship samples or materials as required
Perform periodic inventory counts and coordinate with procurement
Forklift operations and material handling:
Safely operate a forklift to move bulk materials, pallets, and heavy equipment
Conduct routine pre-shift inspections and report any safety concerns
Maintenance and safety:
Perform routine maintenance checks on lab equipment and storage areas
Calibrate or assist with calibration of prep equipment as needed
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the prep room and warehouse
Adhere to all safety protocols, including standard operating procedures and PPE requirements
Collaboration and compliance:
Work with metallurgical and analytical teams to meet project timelines
Support QA/QC procedures and participate in internal audits
Ensure compliance with applicable ASTM standards and client requirements
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; technical diploma or relevant coursework in minerals processing, geology, or related field preferred
Proven experience in mineral sample preparation (crushing, pulverizing, riffling, screening) is highly desirable
Valid forklift certification with hands-on driving experience
Demonstrated ability to operate in a lab/industrial setting safely and efficiently
Basic familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or sample tracking software
Ability to perform repetitive tasks with attention to detail and maintain accurate records
Good organizational and time-management skills; ability to work across teams
Willingness to perform occasional routine maintenance tasks and support equipment upkeep
Physical requirements
Ability to lift and move materials up to [weight] pounds; ability to stand for extended periods
Manual dexterity for precise sample preparation and handling
Ability to work in a controlled lab environment with exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals as per safety guidelines
