Job Summary

The Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the facilitation of safety related training and coaching with research, development and implementation of local safety programs, policies, procedures, and standards. This position will effectively assist in the development of internal training requirements and administratively support daily operations and project specific documentation. The ideal candidate will excel in supporting and partnering with front line supervisors and operations staff to meet and exceed PreCon\'s established safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain health and safety training material.
  • Facilitate new employee safety orientations and various health and safety trainings.
  • Development and arrangement of train-the-trainer internal programs and effective oversight of training program.
  • Maintain employee records and ensure training matrixes are valid and up to date.
  • Conduct scheduled workplace safety inspections including verification of completion of corrective action plans, working closely with the JHSC.
  • Assist with health and safety program to meet training requirements.
  • Maintain statistics and records to measure OHS performance.
  • Manage data entry and maintenance of safety documentation.
  • Oversee and support employee and management safety concerns.
  • Lead incident investigations, corrective actions plans and prevention measures.
  • Capably and confidently support investigation testing measures (i.e. breathalyzer, urinalysis)
  • Strong knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, and standards to maintain compliance.
  • Travel required between Brampton, ON and Woodstock, ON facilities, until position permanently relocates to Woodstock in 2025.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Technical Requirements
  • Three to five years of relevant safety experience in an industrial/unionized environment, ideally within the manufacturing and/or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of legislated requirements in applicable jurisdictions.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience facilitating safety training (i.e. organizational specific fall protection, confined space, forklift, onboarding)
  • Professional Safety designation (NCSO) would be considered an asset.
