The Opportunity
Canada Safety is seeking a Safety Program Specialist to join our Calgary, AB team.
Reporting to the Manager, Canada Safety (West), you will spearhead the evolution of Canada Gas Safe Work Practices (SWPs)--modernizing and optimizing them to strengthen regulatory compliance, operational clarity, and user accessibility. In this role, you'll own the full lifecycle of safety program development, from conception through implementation and ongoing sustainment. You'll refresh and enhance critical resources including Safe Work Practices, training materials, and frontline documentation to empower our technicians and leaders. Additionally, you'll champion the integration of AI technologies to innovate how we create, manage, and deliver safety program resources and training to the field.
What you will doModernize and streamline existing Safe Work Practices (SWPs) for improved clarity, compliance, and usability Simplify SWP content and remove non-critical information Categorize SWPs by risk mitigation level and prioritize updates for high-risk documents Ensure all SWPs align with regulatory requirements and the TC Operational Management System (TOMS) Develop standards and practices based on audit findings and jurisdictional requirements Manage the lifecycle of safety documents, including retiring duplicates and updating ownership Revise training materials and ensure trainers are competent Improve accessibility of SWPs through technology solutions Review and validate the SWP document hierarchy, ensuring correct placement and connection to TOMS elements Engage stakeholders for review and validation of updated SWPs Deliver an updated SWP library categorized by discipline and jurisdiction Develop and implement a strategy for SWP rollout (staged, hybrid, or full deployment) Utilize internal and external resources to support program development; effectively manage action assignments and work performed by these resources, and track and report on schedule compliance Verify compliance with TOMS, Control of Work standards, and Canadian regulatory requirements Support other Canada Safety initiatives as required
Minimum QualificationsPost-Secondary degree in a related field (consideration for work experience and training will be considered) 6 or more years of related experience Demonstrated experience with management system governance policies, procedures, and protocols Strong degree in digital fluency, data interpretation, and technological adeptness
Preferred QualificationsCanadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, or equivalent (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHST, CIH, NEBOSH, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor) In-depth knowledge of Canadian federal/provincial OHS codes, regulations, and industry standards Experience with digital safety management systems and technology-enabled safety solutions This position requires candidates to:This position will involve some travel and overnight stays away from home Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, US and Mexico) Have a valid driver's license and submit to abstract assessment
