As we embark on the next two-year construction phase , we are seeking a Safety Officer to ensure a safe and compliant work environment while fostering a proactive safety culture on-site and in the future for our operations.

Position Summary:
The Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining comprehensive safety programs during the construction of our aquaculture farm and building a culture and programs for the operations of the business. The ideal candidate will have construction safety experience , industrial process safety experience ,knowledge of Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) regulations , and the ability to build a proactive safety culture that engages workers at all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement, and maintain a construction site safety program that aligns with Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Act and Regulations .
• Conduct site safety inspections, risk assessments, and job hazard analyses (JHA) to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Foster a proactive safety culture by promoting engagement, communication, and accountability among workers, contractors, and management.
• Organize and lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions on topics such as PPE use, fall protection, confined spaces, and emergency response.
• Ensure contractor compliance with safety protocols, permits, and regulatory requirements .
• Investigate accidents, near misses, and safety concerns , ensuring proper reporting and corrective actions.
• Maintain safety documentation , including incident reports, training records, and compliance audits.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to integrate safety into all phases of the project.
• Develop and oversee emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, spill response, and first aid protocols .
• Monitor and advise on the safe handling of materials, including biological and chemical hazards related to aquaculture facility construction.
• Oversee health and safety operations of the facility post-construction , including worker safety training, emergency response planning, and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure safe operational procedures are implemented and maintained for facility equipment, including water treatment systems and fish handling areas.
• Conduct ongoing safety audits and risk assessments once the facility is operational.
• Work with operations management to continuously improve workplace safety and environmental health standards .
Qualifications & Experience:
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent safety certification .
• Diploma or certification in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), Construction Safety, or a related field .
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in construction safety , industrial, agricultural, or aquaculture-related projects .
• Strong knowledge of Manitoba WSH regulations and Workers Compensation Board (WCB) requirements .
• Experience with incident investigation, risk assessments, and contractor safety compliance .
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to train, engage, and influence workers and contractors .
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with project management, contractors, and regulatory bodies .
• Strong organizational and documentation skills to maintain compliance records.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software is an asset.
• First Aid, CPR, and WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain).
