Position Overview






Safety, Health & Training Supervisor is responsible for assisting and implementing all aspects of the Safety, Health & Training Program. The Safety, Health & Training Supervisor is also responsible for providing support to the Project Management Team in achieving zero harm.






Essential Job Functions




Administering and monitoring all aspects of the Health and Safety Program. Promote the Health and Safety Program by reviewing with Managers, Superintendents and Supervisors their specific roles and responsibilities under applicable rules and regulations. Inspect and audit the worksites to ensure all employees are working in compliance with the OHSA, Regulations and site standards. Perform observations to ensure SCR policies, procedures and programs are fully implemented, understood, and followed. Work with Project Management Team to identify training needs and develops action plans to address them. Administer training programs individually or in group settings. Work closely with client representatives to adhere to site specific policies and procedures. Maintain comprehensive training records of site employees and subcontractors. Develop policies, procedures, and risk assessments, as required. Perform safety and training audits on programs and systems, as required. Commend good compliance. Address shortcomings with the Project Management Team and Safety, Health & Training Manager. Monitor the effectiveness of the Preventative Maintenance Program and report findings to the Project Management Team. Monitor safety documentation to ensure full compliance. Utilize safety management tools to review analytics, track performance and to audit the Safety Program. Act as a resource in Stop Work and Work Refusal situations. Perform accident/incident investigations and provide comprehensive reports along with follow-up correspondence. Assist in workplace injury claims and administer Early and Safe Return to Work Programs. Answer inquiries from all employees regarding health and safety. Other related tasks as assigned by Manager and/or Managing Partners.

Provide the following:




Assist with daily safety talks and monthly safety meetings. Site specific underground orientation and training when applicable for new/existing employees Periodic review of training requirements Promote and encourage safe work practices. Provide resources on all risk assessment information required for the projects. Promote and educate on proper use of the Field Level Hazard Assessment Cards. Promote and assist the JHSC Committee in their duties. Facilitate/train employees on equipment, Fall Arrest (WAH), WHMIS, Confined Spaces and SCR policies. Assist injured workers and offer support to family members if required.



Education/Experience Requirements





Minimum Education: Completion of a high school education with a combination of experience is also acceptable. A college diploma or University degree in a related field is preferred. Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is considered an asset. Must have successfully completed the Train the Trainer program.



Minimum Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience with advanced knowledge of the mining industry and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.




Other Skills/Abilities




Ability to always represent the company in a professional manner. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are critical. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Good leadership and motivational capabilities. Established ability to be discrete with sensitive and confidential information. Demonstrated multi-tasking skills and ability to organize workload are necessary. Read and interpret blueprints, regulations, policies, and procedures utilized in construction and mining.



Working Conditions




Underground and surface mine setting with most hours being spent walking on a variety of surfaces. In-Class room sessions presenting theoretical content. Position requires 44 hours per week and possibly shift work, additional hours may be required when an incident occurs and/or during periods of increased demand for services. Overtime, weekend, and on-call work. Potential travelling and out-of-town work. Mid to high level of stress due to unpredictability of incidents and handling of highly sensitive information. * Must have a valid Driver's Permit.
