JOB SUMMARY



The mandate of the Safety, Regulatory, Training and Development Service Area is to provide training and development, safety and compliance, and quality and continuous improvement of bus, para transit and light rail services. Services and programs include appropriate safety and job training for transit employees, and the compliance, development, and implementation of safety standards to protect employees and the public. You are responsible for taking a lead role in providing professional electrical engineering advice, support and expertise as part of the Zero Emissions Bus Program. This can include but is not limited to safety of: Transit fleet, facilities, infrastructure as it relates to electrical safety, As well, the position is responsible for supporting the full implementation of the e-bus fleet, through participation in working groups, risk assessment, site visits, technical assessments, verification checks, industrial process mapping, documentation development, projects, and responding to investigations and resolution of Transit's diverse needs.



In addition, you will also represent the branch on technical committees and project teams to provide electrical engineering expertise to discuss and resolve issues on projects internal and external to the department that may impact the operational requirements of OC Transpo. You are also responsible to ensure that the operations and facilities of transit services comply with safety regulations and standards to ensure a safe, efficient, and sustainable implementation of electric fleet.



You will provide technical support, technical review of submissions, root cause analysis, assist with investigations, and technical writing of reports. In addition, you will also represent the branch on technical committees and project teams to provide engineering expertise to discuss and resolve issues on projects internal and external to the department that may impact the operational requirements of OC Transpo. You are also responsible to ensure that the operations and facilities of transit services comply with safety regulations and standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



A four (4) year university degree in Engineering is required. Preferred fields include: Mechanical, Systems, or Electrical Engineering.
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in railway or mass transit relating to fleet safety, electrical safety, engineering, rail operations, or facilities maintenance. Experience in project management is considered an asset.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES


Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)

KNOWLEDGE


Relevant federal, provincial, and municipal regulations, legislation, and policies A working knowledge of passenger railroad / transit operations railway industry procedure and practices with a focus on urban transit systems Project management techniques and practices associated with the planning, documentation and monitoring of systems engineering activities Systems engineering and technical assurance Risk identification analysis and mitigation Occupational safety and risk management; familiarity with qualitative and quantitative electrical risk assessment Risk Assessments Engineering Safety Management Electrical Systems Possess general knowledge of the Corporation, departmental business requirements, policies and organizational structure, and legislative environment of the work location Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, general Internet, electronic communication, and computer software applications/data base management specific to the relevant work location. Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
